Interesting discovery, 4030

Mac-Valve Maestro!
so, not to hijack SiRoxx thread I figured I’d start a new one. I was trying to get candy 2.0 to flow and was beating my head because it wouldn’t work. So micron SiRoxx and others said mix the 4030and reducer first then add paint. That’s when I noticed what was happening. I was using 4020 reducer and 4030 intercoat and this was what I was getting...see pic. I then tried 4012 and 4030 and it was clean and smooth. I figured I had a bad batch of 4020 maybe? So I mixed 4020 and black and it was smooth as well as other colors. So, I seem to be getting some type of contamination or cross linking or something with the 4020 and 4030! If someone else could mix those 2 together in a cup and see if you get the same thing that would be great. Again, I may have a bad batch of something..I’m thinking if I do it’s the 4020 as the 4012 and 4030 mix fine.

I’m all ears on this one. I could figure why my .3 eclipse was clogging so bad but I think that’s the issue. Btw, the 4020 and black sprayed fine. And yes, I tried several different cups as well.

The 4020 is an Automotive reducer consisting of Acetone and Glycol ethers. It is very strong (as close to urethane as you can get) and will burn the 4030 which is a polyurethane water based....
I did read or watch a video from createx not to use 4020 when mixing candy....I will try and find it and post it or a link...
I hope I described this properly....

Just found something and it said you can add a little 4020 after everything is mixed for flow problems in colder and hotter regions.....But that after the 4030, 4012 and candy20....
Cheers

Yea, I’d be interested to see that video. After I saw the gunk, I figured it had something to do with the 4020 and it being urethane like. Curious why it’s ok with the paints like wicked black etc? I will say those little gunk chunks cause some serious blockage.

I have yet to have an issue when mixing the 4030 with the 4020, I just did an entire video mix that way being I do not have any 4012 on hand.
The only time I have ever gotten seeding like that is if I add the candy into the 4030 prior to add the 4020.

Just mixed another batch and let it sit for a bit....seeding. No candy, just the 4030 and 4020...spooookkyyyy

That is odd .
I did have an issue with the 4012 doing that and that is when I switched to the 4020.
Might be a bad batch

It's been just enough time for me to forget my order process, but I know I fell in love with 4020 and 4030. I just did a quick slurry mix with some candy and it got all jacked up. I'll have to do a little more experimentation to remember what my formula was. But the above seeding issue is very real depending on order or quantity of the products being used.

Well he’ll, I bet it’s a bad batch of 4020. I will say when I bought it at hobby lobby the seal was slightly open and I suspected someone maybe took out the 4020 and replaced it with something else? Has odd smell I can’t place but what I find odd is that it mixes fine with just wicked paint alone...hmmmmm

Herb, can’t thank you enough for the video puts my mind at ease. You sir are the MAN

Before I replied to this thread I woulda been 100% behind 4020 and 4030, but I've been messing with it since then and the addition of 4030 to my mix causes nothing but problems.

I will say my 4030 is kind of thick. It does however mix great with 4012. Can’t wait to see what happens when you mix it. I’m convinced it’s my batch of 4020 however

The bottle of 4030 I have is from back when it first came out . but I know there is a post where a guys entire bottle of 4030 went rock hard in the bottle.
You might try this pick up one of the small bottles of 4030 at hobby lobby and try the mix with the 4020 you have now. if it does not seed like this one is doing then it is the 4030 that is bad .
