Best Airbrush for Big Area?

I have a Krome and its pretty good for detail and can get thin (I have the thin or ultra-thin setup, whichever is the smallest I dont remember). I need something thats the opposite, something that'll cover a big area and can spray decently thick paint easily. Anyone have any recommendations? Not looking for something SUPER expensive, but anything can do.

Maybe a badger Anthem. Siphon feed, .7mm nozzle/needle, fairly inexpensive.

Thanks for the reply! Looks like it's perfect. I'll wait for a few more answers and see what people think!

Can you get a kit (larger needle/nozzle) for that airbrush? Would save some money instead of buying a new AB.

The .7 is the largest for the Patriot/Anthem. The largest variety available is on the H&S Colani, it comes with a .4mm nozzle. You can buy up to a 1.2mm in .2mm increments. It's meant more for larger projects and Murals.

If I need something .7 or bigger I just use a mini spray gun being I am only looking for coverage and not detail.

Could you recommend one? Thanks!

How much are you prepared to spend, mine guns can range from 40 to 300 dollars, but your description of what you eventually want to do suggests that you'll get what you need for around 80 to 100, Google Sata or Devilbiss mini guns and look for 0.8 to 1.2 nozzles, you can even find a kit fairly cheap.

Put up links to what you find and the guys will tell you if it's good or not.

http://www.amazon.com/DeVilbiss-802405-StartingLine-Touch-Up-Gravity/dp/B0015PKQDK Is this one any good? What would I need in all if I got this to be ready to paint? What adapter or hose?

That doesn't look bad at all, nozzle size is a bit in the middle so it wouldn't be a wrong choice.

You should be able to find a double manifold for your compressor that will allow you to connect 1/8 and 1/4 size hoses without the need for adaptors.
I think I'm just going to get a large conversion kit for my 2020. That way I have my fine/ultra-fine setup with my Krome, and I'll have the medium/large setup on my 2020.

Also a wise option, you can easily buy spray guns later if you think you need to and if you begin to realise some success with your intended activity.

Yeah, I think I'm just going to go with this. Do you have any recommended places to buy a large conversion kit? On Amazon, just the nozzle is $50 o_o.

I'm not familiar with the brush but Ken from Badger airbrushes is a member here, you could mail him or some of our fine American chaps could probably advise you further.

IMO get the needle/nozzle set for the Renegade Rage, and convert the Krome instead. The Krome is the "bells and whistles" model of the Renegade line, so the parts are cross-compatible.

The 20/20 is designed to be a high-end fine detail specialist, while the Krome is meant to be a more of a jack-of-all-trades workhorse model. Seems counter intuitive IMO to make the 20/20 your broad spray gun and the Krome your detail gun.

According to Badger's website, the Rage's needle/nozzle set's spray pattern diameter tops at 1&1/2" while the 20/20's largest needle/nozzle tops at 1&1/4", so you'll get better broad coverage with a Rage-chambered Krome. The Krome's color cup is also much larger the 20/20s, and that'll be an important consideration. Seems to me that the 20/20s color cup would be cripplingly small for that sort of spraying.

Renegade parts are around 1/3 the cost of 20/20 parts, so handier for your budget as well.

Thanks for the reply. I'll definitely go with this idea. Do you know where I can find some Rage parts? I can't seem to find many anywhere.

If you are looking at covering large [ bigger than say A3 size ], I'd use a hvlp set-up.
I bought one at a flea market new for 30 dollars AUS.
It has a 1.2 needle, holds about 250 mls of paint and runs from my ab compressor no worries.
A good option also for clear coats, guessoes and varnishes.

Coast Airbrush and Chicago Airbrush both list them if you're in the US:
http://www.coastairbrush.com/renegadeparts.asp
http://www.chicagoairbrushsupply.com/baresepa.html

The renegade needles & nozzles are listed as "fine" and "super fine" rather than by model name on Amazon. "Super fine" is the set that comes preinstalled with the Velociy, Spirit, and Krome, "fine" is the Rage:

Thanks for all of the help! I'll order that conversion kit from Amazon tomorrow! But, I have a problem. My cat knocked over the Krome when I had it in its stand...it fell and the part where the nozzle goes bent... Now I can't get the nozzle in... Is this fixable or do I need a whole new Krome?
