Hi from Galway

Gareth White

Triple Actioner
I've been lurking here for a while now trying to pick up some tips on this art, so apologies for not saying anything.

I have dabbled in art for some years now (I'm 64) , painting in oils, watercolour and acrylics and some pencil drawing - none of it very good, but it's fun.

What got me into airbrushing ? Well, I made a display case for a Tower of London Poppy for my son out of wood and polycarbonate and couldn't get a decent finish on the wood (he wanted it flat matt black) by hand, so I remembered that somewhere I had a Badger 200 - I think it was - and that should give me a better finish. Well to cut a long story short, I could only find the air hose, nothing else, so I decided to get a cheap airbrush and compressor from ebay. Having done that and enjoyed the experience, I thought "people paint with these" so perhaps I'll find out what its all about.

Again cutting a long story short, I thought the cheap knock offs were not going to be the best, so looked for a decent entry level brush - it was going to be either the Neo or the H&S Ultra. I chose the Ultra as it had good reviews and was easy to clean.

I'm currently experimenting with paint - I want to do 'fine art' rather than T-Shirts etc. but made the wrong initial choice in buying Createx - just black and white (opaque and trans) and played about with reductions doing the beginner dots, lines, daggers etc. I've just purchased the Wicked detail basic primary set which arrived when I was in hospital. Now I've been out a few hours I'm going to have a play with them.

Enough of my rambling, it's good to be here.

Airbrushes: H&S Ultra, (BP-128P, BO212 - came with compressor)
Compressor: AS18-2
Paints: Createx, Wicked Detail

Welcome home Gareth nice to have you here, I think you picked the right airbrush, While the Neo is sold by Iwata it is a knock off they consigned and they seem to be hit or miss from what I have read .

welcome to the fun and games....... at least you have an 'arty' background, more than some of us came with :D

Welcome to the forum if you have any questions just ask as im sure you will get answers to them fast on here

Hi Gareth, welcome aboard :) Make sure you use the proper reducer with the Wicked paint, it really works a treat. You've chosen quite a popular brush, so you're good to go. Shout out if you need any help, and don't forget to post some pics of your efforts - always good to get reassurance you're on the right track, or helpful advice that could save weeks of trial and error. :)

Hi Gareth, nice to see you took the plunge finally, you've got yourself a pretty decent entry level brush, and yes, standard createx isnymt the best choice but you have least ordered some better paint.

If you need anything at all just give us a shout, since reductions and such are different For everyone it's pretty much trial and error until you find what suits your own style but still free free to quiz the guys, at least get some ideas based on what others do and prefer.

Feel free to post up some your practice works, that way we can advise you if you think your struggling.

And Wecome again, good to have you here:thumbsup:

Hi Mr. Micron,
Thanks for the welcome. I spent quite some time looking and liked the possibilities of interchangeable parts.

Hi Tony,

Thanks for the welcome.

Home is really Cardiff, where I was born and raised. Now I live in Galway - I 'retired' here nearly 10 years ago but still work. My contract says 3 days per week, but I usually work 5-6. Don't get any more money for it though. LOL

Thanks Squissy. I'm using the High Performance Reducer which came with the pack - smells a bit funny though !!
