Hello guys and girls I hope!

My name is Igor, and I live in Croatia. Nice place more or less, but not if you wanna earn money tbh. I am 28 years old mining engineer.
I am playing miniature games for years, mostly 40k/30k, infinity, warmachine...Around 2 years ago, I finally decided to buy compressor and airbrush, because it was necessary for my Alpha legion project.
More or less I bought some similar deal to this one: http://www.ebay.de/itm/Airbrush-Kom...153427?hash=item43ddfcfd13:g:86gAAOSwHaBWlSF7

And I can't say that it doesn't do the job done. For what I am using it, it's very decent. Base coating and painting main color over infantry and tanks, I can't complain too much considering the price. Sometimes despite water trap you really can't do any airbrushing because of too much humidity, but that's okay, I don't need to airbush on such days. After each use I clean my airbrush, and leave needle outside because from what I see, it helps if really small amount of paint was left in, this way it doesn't get clogged. So I can say that I do have some airbrush experience, although it would be nice to get some better airbrush so that I can become better painter and start doing some detail work, osl etc, which I really can't with those Chinese airbrushes I got with compressor

What I am looking for now is something around 100$ maybe a bit more, since I really can't justify spending 200$ on airbrush, when my monthly paycheck will be 300$.
My friend is visiting his girlfriend in Sacramento, so I can order new airbrush to him, and he can bring it back to me, no shipping and taxes this way :) . From what I see airbrushes are more expensive in Europe and if I order them from outside Europe, there is good chances they will be taxed, so that bring expenses at least 30% up. it would be nice to use this opportunity to get one from USA.
I stumbled on Amazon on Sotar 20/20 which look quite okay for it's price. Dunno can you find something better around this price range. My Chinese ab is still perfectly fine for most of painting I need to get done, I just need something which I can use for more detailed and fine work.

welcome aboard, i'll leave the airbrush specs to those in the know.

Welcome :)

I'm not familiar with the sotar but normaly a good detail brush in the price range you are looking at will be very hard/near impossible to get (from an A brand). I normaly wouldn't advice this with an airbrush, but it might be an idea to have a look at websites selling 2nd hand stuff (no clue which are used in croatia), you just might get lucky.

For detail you are looking for a nozzle size of 0.2 or smaller preferably an Iwata, Harder & steinbeck or badger

The sotar 20 20 is a Badger brush and supposedly a pretty good detail brush for what costs;)

I would not go for a badger if you live in Croatia , parts for it will be hard to come by , have a look at the Iwata HP + series

From what I've read so far he wants a dedicated detail brush for a song, so that pretty much rules out Iwata methinks;)

I need something with what I can do finer works, since most of the time I will still use my chinese airbrush, since it's gets the job done with undercoating and putting base colors. This one would be for higlights, osl, painting panels, armor and cloak higlights and so on.
Are airbrushes so prone to breaking? My Chinese one is yet to fail me after a yer of use.

Even the most expensive airbrush can break if you don't take care of it, you could get detail with your cheap brushes if you drop your pressure, thin your paint and get in real close, some of my best works were also done with cheap brushes, but if want a good name brush like the badger sotar I doubt you'll find anything cheaper than the sotar you mentioned, but as mentioned, your problem starts when you need parts, you'll have to order overseas and the shipping will sting you.

Consider the H&S ultra or the Neo for Iwata which will both allow you some detail, they are closer to your price range and parts will be easier to find locally.

it is like Madbrush says , every airbrush will need replacements parts at one point , nozzles wear and so do needles . thinner paint and low pressure will give you more control and finer detail .
what ever airbrush you choose make sure you can get spare parts like needles and nozzles with ease and check if shipping costs wont exceed the price of the spare parts
I have read a lot of good things about the badger sotar but also read about people tossing it aside due to problems with it and not being able to fix the problems

You can get the Sotar for $87 from this link:
http://www.amazon.com/Badger-Air-Brush-2020-2F-Gravity-Airbrush/dp/B000BROVIO/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1454706105&sr=8-1&keywords=sotar 20/20 2F

I have ordered it, and the only issue is, it takes longer to receive it (10-14 days for me, but at the time it was on back-order). I am not an experienced artist to tell how good is it, but with reduced paint and low pressure, I was able to do really nice tiny lines, and good control on the passes. They are not sold as second hand, and why are they half price that everywhere else, is not clear to me. The airbrush came nicely packed from a retailer in USA, with extra nidle (0.2), and two spray regulators (with arms and no arms).
I have it short time to say if something will brake, or not.
