Hey, it is FRIDAY!!! So a run down, I started this Airbrush scene about a year ago. Never really sat and did any practice exercises I see online. I cant seem to do a portrait to save my life, but I found that ground aluminum art is fun and relieves a lot of stress. I use a Badger patriot and Badger Sotar 20/20. Any help or critiques would be great. I guess I am looking for tips on thinning AA, compressor PSI, and how to get fine detail. Here is some of my recent fun.:thumbsdown:Bronco.JPG Bronco2.JPG Freedom.JPG Grind.JPG Warrior.JPG

What ratios are you using now? Getting that dialed in will help with your detail work.

I fancy playing with some ground Aluminium myself, seems like a lot of fun, and something I never get around to trying.

I have no clue on the ratios. I drop some reducer in the cup, then few drops of transparent base, then roughly 12 drops of color

What is the purpose of dropping transparent base? I thought transparent base is good for "thickening" up when you over reduce? I thought that if you reduce opaque paint it becomes semi transparent, and more or less acts as transparent except that eventually it will become opaque. Does putting the transparent base in with opaque paint make the paint a true transparent?

You can use it for every thing you described :) its just paint without pigment, can be used as a barrier/intercoat clear, making super transparent colours

Transparent base has many uses , Locking in the new Candy O2 so it will not bleed, Making an opaque semi transparent , Making transparent more like a candy , And it does help some on flow due to it has not pigment but it is not a reducer.
But adding a opaque to a transparent base does not mae it a true transparent.

Now for Ryan
Paint plastic hat hats is a pain in the back side. Clearing one is even more of a pain when you try and use rattle can spray clear vs an automotive clear.
It is easy to sand through and ruin art work . Just telling you this because it will make life a lot easier .
Ground metal art work is fun to do and your flag with fire works is a very nice piece . But now for the C&C part of it.
Take the time to do those dots and dagger strokes while most find them boring as all heck they also find that it does help improve their paintings.
Like anything you do in life the more time you spend learning how to do it right the less time you spend fixing mistakes. The main goal is when you are finished with a piece have it really had to tell you used a stencil or tape out or mainly how it was all done. That is where the practice time really pays off.
I look at airbrush like playing hoops , You practice your motor skills to be able to aim at the hoop and hit it from many different places on the court after a long while you could hit almost every shot you took . Being able to hit the same spot on a painting is kind of the same thing

It makes new Candy O2 not bleed?????

fornicate me, that is the exact problem I'm having on the picture I'm trying to do!!! I used up almost a whole rattlecan of autobody clearcoat (I know its the wrong stuff but had nothing better) and it was still bleeding. And I had just bought a big bottle of transparent base from Mapleairbrush (Donna) and I didn't know it would lock....

Thanks!

I will send you the link to the video Craig Fraser and David Monnig made about the new Candy O2
The intercoat clear will not lock in the bleed you get using the new Candy O2 but the Transparent base will
