Am I naming this incorrectly? I was searching around trying to get tips and tricks and ideas for bringing in background graphics/textures to some artwork. Could anyone point me to a good article or am I using the wrong wording?

Thanks

There are many textures and effects, and maybe too many to put into a single article. What kind of things ate you interested in?

I was just thinking of simple techniques for random backgrounds behind say some stripes or something. Something besides straight color.

Look for Gerald Mendez's "texture fx" stencils. They are a great tool for your AB'ing tool box. Lots of other ways to do it but these are great for so many things.

You can use a lot of things for texture such as spraying thru...a paint brush, scotch bright pad, cotton batten ,Lace fabric, onion sacks or you can dab or drag the wet paint with plastic wrap, cloth,a wire brush, paint brush, and yes the Fx stencile is a great one too! also spraying the background with water/Wendex with let the paint run down randomly . hope this gives you idea's:thumbsup::thumbsup: just try some things and see what happens

Thanks base that was just what i needed. I had been using lace to create texture and had been experimenting with plastic bags sprayed with a color and dabbing it on. It creates a nice effect. and is a hell of a lot easier then marbelizing paint. I had recently seen a piece done that looked like it was green underneath a wire brush scrapped overcoat of black. I wasn't sure if they sprayed the black onto a brush and then scraped it across the surface or sprayed the black wet and scrapped the black off with the wire brush.

Many ways to skin that cat..Stippling and figure 8's is likely the most used in airbrushing..Stencils and the like are good but can also be a bit sharp..i like blur in the distance..So main method for me is stippling at a distance to the canvas, sometimes mixed with some soft dabbing of a putty eraser or the like..Really depends on the individual backgrounds needs as to how you may approach it, but there are many ways....PS Have you tried searching here for texture? Prob mentioned in hundreds of threads and how too's. Also at Youtube search stroke theory in Airbrushing and also dont be afraid to look into it in other artforms and how to vids..its all much the same idea's..Good luck

What about something like this?

If I'm not mistaken that is a type of paint that does that. Almost like the crystal paints that gives an almost broken ice effect.
