Clear Coat questions!

Hey, guys!

I was going to clear coat a project I'm working on but then found that my CC couldn't come out of the airbrush. My guess is that it's too think for the needle, so I was wondering if I can reduce clear coat.

If I can, what should I be reducing clear coat with? Can I just use normal reducers? I'm using gloss from US art supply. (I know, I plan on buying a different brand when I've gotten the hang of airbrushing) Haha!

Thanks!

P.S. what is the recommended needle size for clear coats?

First things first, before you ask for any input on what to reduce what with, ALWAYS go to the manufacturer. Clear coat comes in acrylic, enamel (varnish), solvent based and two pack paints. All of them are gloss products. You reduce ANY paint with the stuff the manufacturer says first and anything else is experimental. Some work, some don't others react... very bad.

The general consensus is use a dedicated airbrush if you are going to clear with it. With regard to needle size, that is more dependent on what you are going. You can use a 0.18 if you don't mind lots of streaks and want to spend all day doing it.

You really need a mini hvlp for decent coverage, depending on the area you are clearing. Or sparmax do a really decent 2k rattle can.

I don't know the clear you are using, but in general clears are super dangerous to you, your environment, and anyone inn the vicinity - family, neighbours etc. If you are not properly set up for it then probs best to take it to someone who is. Check the tech sheet for your product.

For a small non picture project I used an acrylic top coat clear in a rattle can. Worked well,
If your talking vehicles then save the frustration and take it to the local panel shop and let them do it properly
