Brand new, but a worrying mark.

They do test them radomly, but they usually put the test paper in the packaging. It may be a return, a tad worrying as they didn't inspect well enough to notice the dirty cup. But as long as it works well and the original issue was resolved, any parts replaced etc, it's all good, Regarding polishing, now that it's clean, I wouldn't do that again if you don't need to. The chrome plating is fairly thin, and it does wear off over time anyway. It's only cosmetic and does not affect performance at all, so when it does wear it's no biggie, but polishing may make it wear quicker.

I love this brush, you made a great choice, time to enjoy!
Sure, I don't plan on using any polish like that again, but it definitely did the trick for this. I was guaranteed it hadn't been used or had previously been returned. Maybe it was just one of those things. ‍♂️

It is a little odd. Mine had a test sheet in and the colour seemed to be sepia, and hard to tell but it looked a similar colour to what was in your cup? If it was something that had liquid/water etc get into it during storage I wouldn't expect it to be in a ring around the top. Definitely looks like a tide mark to me, as you said. But the most important thing is the performance, as long as it works like new, and everything inside looks new, you're golden. It's a pain to send something back, but it would have been good if they held their hands up, (used or not, it wasn't pristine) and offered a discount for next time, or threw in a spare needle or something. But hey, it does what it's supposed to, and they do seem to have the best prices at the moment too.

Don't feel bad, I just looked closer at the end of my new Micron SB and found this.

Sure, I did wonder if they may have offered something, but hey ho. At least it works great as far as I'm able to tell.

Huh, looks a similar colour to whatever was in mine. Weird.

uh huh see? Look what ya'll have done! Poor Iwata is cranking out brushes so fast to keep up with the demand you guys create, they can't even clean them properly before shoving them in the box and sending em out the door! :p You all should be ashamed of yourselves!

They just need to hire more workers to keep up :D

That's got to be it! Mystery solved haha.

In my case it is normal for the plating not to take in that spot because of how the dip the bodies in the tank. It must get a slight air bubble in that spot. Yours looked a lot more like test paint, or is there nickel plating missing?

Ok, that makes sense if they're dipped that way. I don't think there's any missing on mine. I think I read somewhere that the Eclipse models aren't coated all the way into the cup, or I'm imagining that! Regular Airbrush cleaner took most of it out, then I gave the interior of the cup a light polish and bingo, it came up beautiful.

I talked with Coast Airbrush about it since Iwata was closed by the time I called and they said like others that it was most likely test paint. They said with mine all Micron SB have that spot missed.

It's cool how they Nicole plate things. They just hang them into a tank with water and low voltage and some Nickel Chloride, Nickel Sulfate and Boric Acid and the they run a low voltage into the water to the parts that have been connected to the opposite end of the voltage. The Nickel then is attracted to the metal or copper part. I used to do deliveries to a small plating shop and I'll tell you it wasn't very high tech looking. I always wondered if you could re-plate Airbrush's that have warn.

They can certainly be replated if they get worn, they do it with vintage car fenders and other chrome parts, we had a guy on here who did plating as a hobby, he was inquiring if it was possible to spray his copper medium through a Neo with a portable compressor.

There are a few videos in YouTube showing how to do it yourself and what you need to do it, but is an expensive hobby, mainly for the materials used for the chrome itself, to justify the cost you would have to making money from it, I was looking into it when I built my slide guitar to chrome parts I wanted to make myself out of brass but it was cheaper for me to just but the parts ready made except for the nut which I made out of aluminium and covered it in chrome tape.

Those damn Samsung fools need to sort out their predictive text, since the last software update I spend more time changing words that don't exist than I actually do typing my messages:mad:

Good to know! That's a pretty cool system for sure.

I know I typed Nickel and it replaced it with Nicole. I have a habit of not stopping to read over it. [emoji23]

LOL, I'm just sick of constantly having to edit, but I could blame myself because my laptop is sitting less than 5 feet away from me and I'm just to lazy to go get it, with its bigger screen I can actually see what I typeo_O my phone is always next to me because it has all my medicine alarms on it and I would forget them otherwise:confused:

Ha I have a wife for that. And then she calls me idiot when I forget. I only take them in the morning when I get up and at supper time, so it's not to bad. However I have ADD so if I get distracted I will still forget. Good thing it only BP medicine and Cholesterol and Omeprizol for acid reflux. I don't need the Diabetes mess anymore since I lost 65 pounds. Plus I know when I forget. Suddenly have heartburn and a migraine with my BP going up.
