Bent needles

Hello
Is it just me being a clumsy dick or is it common practice to go through needles like no ones business through jabbing your artwork up close?
Needle number 4 now bites the dust............
I was practicing daggers at about 2mm from the canvas and got a bit too close

That is why it is suggested that you leave the needle cap on when you first start out. 4 needles is a bit much it means you are not watching the distance from the surface well enough.
ShaepenAir.com is your best friend you can re-shape all those bent needles and make them new again unless you are using an H&S I understand it does not work well with those needles.

Another vote for the Sharpenair. I bought one recently and they’re awesome. Really easy to use, if you’re carful and follow the guide.

I had a look at the sharpenair last night, to ship to the uk i’m looking at £70, new needles with delivery was £30......I watched a vid on YouTube and found a technique for straightening using wood which seems to have done the trick till the new ones arrive.
To be honest my control is much better I just had a momentary lapse of concentration lol
What is a H&S Mr.Micron?

Harder & Steenbeck airbrushes

I believe @MeeshellMP has just got one and has fixed a needle successfully. I think Lionart has the cheapest price to the uk but don't quote me on that.
I've only ever bent one needle in my HP-B+ and that was polishing the needle in the dremel, Rule 1 = Dont use a dremel, way too fast flung the needle out and it stuck in the floor in an "S" shape.

Rather the floor than your foot lol

That is why I use a variable speed drill and set it slow .
I have bent 3 needles 1 on my CS when I first started out due to hitting the metal panel , 2nd was due to my neighbor knocking my airbrush holder down when he fall on it and the last one was on an spare needle to see how well the sharpenAir worked.
But I have yet to bend a needle on my H&S but cracked nozzles on them is up to 10 and the last one never even had paint ran through it:(
So the Infinity no longer gets play time LOL

How do nozzles crack, is it by dropping or when you dismantle the brush or just wear and tear?

Some nozzle I think are made out of softer metals so they tend to crack mainly on the super small ones. like the .15 of the infinity . I have ordered a .2 set up for the infinity to see if the nozzle holds up better.

Ahhhh ok, i take it if a nozzle cracks its very noticeable with the way the airbrush sprays?
Just asking as it will probably be something I come across one day.

Its easy, don't bump into your surface. Another question. Do you do daggers by changing distance. Example, do you start close and tight and pull away and go wide and visa versa. If yes, that is not a dagger stroke but a commet stroke. With daggers you keep the same distance and just jange the paint flow.

Oh ok, well yeah commet stroke then.
Going by Mitch’s total control video changing the distance he calls a dagger stroke?? Either way yeah thats what I do.
Also If only it was that easy not to jam the needle into the board lol looks like i’ll learn the hard way

Try the Daniel Power method. Much easier and safer. Start a dot and move sideways while you close the paint (air on all the time).
