Back in the mid 1980's National Geographic Magazine had a picture of an Afghan refugee with stunning eyes. I figured I'd give another try at color using this reference.
For people just starting out, try to never scrap a piece without at least finishing all the way through. My way of painting at the moment creates a hideous painting halfway through but usually ends up coming out decent. Wait till you see some of these scary pics.

The whites of the eyes look a tad whiter on the computer than reality. Also had a little problem with the black washing out a little on the phone pic.
I used Etac paint on this and had absolutely no problems (graininess, etc) like I do with some Createx Illustration colors. I think I'll be sticking with Etac.

Looks beautiful. I found that letting CI sit with the reducer for a few minutes solves a lot of the grainy look. I get a lot more inconsistent spraying with it. E'Tac does flow way nicer but on my last illustration board I had trouble erasing. It was almost as if the paint was wiping right off with even a soft eraser.

    Thanks guys.

I've tried letting it 'cook' for a half hour before I painted and it's still problematic for me (sometimes). That's kinda the issue. It just seems so inconsistent. In my few attempts with E'tac I've had zero issues. It doesn't play as nice with synthetic paper but I believe my 'Arnold' piece was done with E'tac. I'll have to go back and look.

Thanks guys it was fun. I only have a very limited understanding of color so it's always a challenge. I just got a book on understanding color from Amazon and I also now have a color wheel. Need to get to reading.......:)

Great job Greg, can barely tell the difference from the reference. Really good! You are right about following through on each picture to the end. It always amazes me how a picture can look so awful midway and it turns out to be one of your favorites in the end.
