    Hey again guys :)

So my next stage I'm working on is FEATHERS! So I did this little guy :)

I struggled to get into it, and took me forever to figure out how to tackle the wing, eventually I did each individual feather and that helped a lot.
I think I have the concept better now and will try again and see how it comes out this time, knowing where to start this time :D

As always, any advice is appreciated :D

Looks really good. Love your tenacity. It's awesome getting such great advice on this forum but the best way to learn in my opinion is just get in there and do it! You find out that some things work for you that might not for others thus developing your own style. You're doing great!

It's true, we are the best. And so modest too lol lol lol.

I agree with greg the best way to learn is to get stuck in, and with everyone keeping tabs, you're cracking along nicely. Looks like you have the technique, so now you can continue to refine it. You're doing great.

Feathers look fantastic as well as the head. If I had to criticize it would be to say that maybe you should have a harder edge around the entire bird which would make it really pop with that blurred background. good job

Looking good Cherie, you are doing great. Have to agree with big john with constructive feedback, a harder edge where needed would make it look even better than it is already. You have done a fine job and the little details in the feathers are great.

You are off to a fine start! Each time you paint feathers, you will feel more comfortable doing it! One of the things I do, when there are quite a few feathers showing distinct separation from one another, I might cut a few small stencils to use to create a bit of outline, or shadow to define the shapes. I may do 3 different ones, or maybe as many as 5 - turning them over periodically to create even more randomness...

Not the best example, as the area where I did it the most (the white feathers on the belly) is kind of blown out in this picture...

You've done well, doing anything for the first time is all trial and error.

First and foremost you've taken the biggest step by trying something out of your comfort zone!!! That's what will help you to progress! Great work! As stated by the others, I agree on a more solid edge where needed however it does have an abstract feel to it!!!

Cherie, are you using a reference? When starting out, it is really good to be looking at a good clear reference. It will help you with getting proportion, lighting and the hard and soft lines that everyone is speaking of. Working on each section of the bird slowly will help conquer the overwhelming feeling you get when starting on a project such as a bird with all those feathers. I think you are getting the feather texture down and your little bird looks so cuddly. I hope my suggestions help. Keep up the good work!

When I started doing it, I was completely lost, until my partner told me to try do one feather at a time, so it hit me to cut out of piece of paper the shape for the feathers and try tackle them one at a time instead of all at once. It helped so much! :p
That pic is awesome! :D I love how the feathers are defined :p Especially the dark chest/neck

I do have a reference for this birdie :p It helped a lot to keep going back to see what it's supposed to look like, especially with all the colours. I must say it looks nothing like the reference! :D But still, I wouldn't have been able to do much without it! :p
