This was my first attempt at an airbrush portrait. It took me a total of 2 hours, start to finish. I will dedicate more time in the future for portraits, but this was for learning purposes. I learned to mask better in the future, there was some overspray that I didn't care for. I also want to try erasing techniques but don't feel ready yet.

My reference was black & white but I decided to try it in color.
This was done on 12x12 card stock knowing that I would trim it down to a smaller size later. I used different brands of paint because I don't have every color in one brand yet. These include Com-Art, Wicked, and Badger paints. I'm getting a little better with my air pressure and paint reduction. I was not reducing enough. Slower is better for me.

Badger 150 (.76) for the red background (15 psi).

Iwata hp-cs (.35) for the rest (5 psi).

Constructive criticism is greatly appreciated for learning purposes. Thanks

I learned to draw with a pencil & portraits (everything) took too long. Airbrush is much more rewarding.

Pretty good first try,as for detail when you learn how to do erasing that will help, also looks like you used black as your shading? Next time try adding some dark purple to your base color(it only takes a very little bit of it to darken the base color) and use that for shading. hope this helps you out some

I did add a drop of black to the skin tone color I had mixed for shading. I will try purple instead on the next one. Thanks for the tip.

When you add it use a toothpick and add very little not a whole drop unless your using about 15 drops of the base color

Great Job. You could also try using torn paper to create some harder lines - eyes and Lips. Spray through a bunch of wires to acheive some basic hair texture.

Good job for the first time! Many peoples changed a colored portrait into a black and white, you do it the other way around!
