Ok so do you know who Marco Pantani is...? If not, he was a world class cyclist through the '90's. He won the Giro D'Italia in 1998 and the Tour de France in the same year, the first person in about 38 years to do so at that stage. He was short and an awesome climber. He had some classic tussles and in the mountains that tussle normally meant the rival was given a lesson in climbing. He holds the record for ascent of the Alpe D'Huez and Lance couldn't catch him. In the best Italian cycling tradition he was given a nickname, The Pirate. He is my favourite cyclist and so I've decided to do a couple of him. The first is a smallish piece (120 x 130mm) of Marco in yellow. It is painted on poster board adn will be another mixed media piece using Golden high flow for the most of it and permanent marker for the really sharp detail of the logo's. First off, transfer the image to the card, then on with the black and red logos. I'll cut a stencil for mapping out the face better. There are a number of very sharp edges that I want to capture.
