Iwata CM-CP2 or Iwata CM-SB2

The cm-b is actually an on going auction. It's around that price currently. I'm hoping I can get it for a lower price. The diffidence between the v1 and v2 is from the trigger right?

I cannot really tell if the trigger is the only change. I know that they have made possible for the needle protector to be screwed on the back of the AB, which has nothing to do with AB performance, but maybe there is some adjustment in the needle/nozzle matched setup (different production, materials, etc).

CM-b I like, CM-CP2 I don't have so I cannot say much, but I would say (based on all the answers I got from more experienced users), both are almost the same, and you need to be really good artist to notice the difference up to the level that would bother you, and that you wish to have the other one.

If have to buy now, I would base my decision on the budget, and on the type of airbrushing you want to do. If you create bigger pieces of art with need of bigger amount of color per piece, go with CM-CP2 because it has bigger paint cup. This also might not be that important if you pre-mix the paint in a cup and then you keep sipping it in smaller paint cups on CM-B2.

On the last post, I am not sure which one you are asking about. If it for the amazon link, $328 for Japanese direct import seems as same as the ones you get from Ebay.

The handle is different. The needle cap can screw on the back of the handle. The needle shaft and rocker is now one piece and there is a slight change to the body. As in you can not fit said one piece shaft/rocker to a V1. And obviously there is the trigger.

Just pulled the trigger on the SB2 :glasses: I figured it's the one I'd need as I'd be changing quite a bit of paint in one session.

So now I need the Aztec side cup then. Anyone could recommend which ones fit on the sb2? Can't wait till it gets here :p

Nice price, appx $325. The Japanese proxy is scaring me, :), since I have no idea what all the other text is telling me.
Good luck with the purchase and post some of your work here so we can see how are you doing.

Take care.

Shouldn't be a problem, I suppose? Especially if it ends at 20-23k yen lol

Interesting. I'll check my production no of my HP CS later.

But I already went ahead with the SB2. Will prolly take about a week or so to get here. I'll definitely post some pics soon. Thanks for the help!

What about Olympos guns? They don't have the Micron in side feed but you can get the B or C in Micron.

Olympos is another brand that Iwata is based on. They also make a Micron but not in a SB version. Their SB version is a 0.2 model and looks like the Iwata High Performance range.

Ah s, I saw that link you sent me. Looks good and well made. I have a few questions that I hope you ( or anyone else :))can help me out:

I'll be using very little paint so preferably a feed cup would be more efficient since there won't be any paint waste. How's the cup that comes with the SB, can you use the last drop of paint with those btw?

so which one would fit the CM SB2:

Will this one fit? And do I need anything else in order to fit it to the airbrush?

If it doesn't spray u till the last drop of paint then I think I will need to get these?:

http://olympos-airbrush.ocnk.net/product/283

And what's the difference with this similar version?:

I also saw this leather part and I was wondering if it's needed?:

Sorry for bombarding with so many questions lol

There will always be wasted paint even though it may be the tiniest amount irrispective of the type or size of cup, paint by nature will cling to the sides and bottom of the cup so it's impossible to syphon out every single drop, if this was possible there would be no need for cleaning;)

It hasn't been mentioned yet and I forgot to mention it too but the bottom of the original iwata/olympos side cups are removable for easy cleaning, this isn't possible with the aztec plastic ones, in all cases you don't need to make any modifications or add anything to make them fit.

The white ones are very easy to clean and the two-tone ones come apart.

Thanks Andre, I wasn't sure on the Aztec ones, I've seen plenty of references here on the forum over the white ones but not the two tone.

I was working at a friends house a couple of years ago and he had an Aztec brush in its box, he had the plastic body version of the brush and the box contained one of every type of Aztec cup including a syphon bottle, I was more impressed with box than the contents, I thought that cobpnsidering how cheap the brush looked, the box was beautifully carved out of a single piece of wood and all the parts fitted perfectly in their place, I've always had a bit of a box/case fetishism, lol, and this is one situation where I would happily buy the contents just for the box.

If I come across the same Aztec kit locally, I'll buy it just to display, certainly if I find the chrome model in the same type of box, irrespective of whether or not it performs well, it definitely poses well, there seems to be as much craftsmanship went into that box than goes into decorative trinket boxes, the whole kit would look great alongside the innovative airbrush holder made from deadwood that some posted here a while back, both items that wouldn't look out of place on the living room coffee table.

Wow, this is amazing. I am not sure what happens with the seller I got my AB from, about a month ago.
I know that the dollar got hit by the strength of the yen in the last couple of days, but this is too much of compensation.

my price on March 24th, $308.70
today's price on the same item from the same seller, $634.99 :eek::eek::eek::eek::mad:

I was thinking of getting the CM-CP2 or SM-SB from him, but that will wait for better times. coastairbrush.com is selling it for less. Weird.
