So this was a 9'x20' , 3Mx7M roughly Mural on a wall leading to a vaulted ceiling. Took about 10hrs with setting up the scaffolding ( the bottom of the painting starts at 9' height). It was impossible to get a good full picture because of the ceiling fan and the fact that the room was probably only 16' to the opposite wall.
I dropped a lot of detail, partly because of viewing distance and mainly because I did it very cheap for this size. ($500)

I added Quite a bit of color compared to the reference because that much black would have killed the room. It's a couple shades brighter than it appears. In fact on the left side the black has a bluish purple tone and abive it theres a whole dark green forest that blends in to where it's hard to see in this pic.

Nice job Mate. I think you made the right choice with lightening the pic. It would have made the place feel pretty dark. Cool job on the colour for the water too. That’s a really nice blend.

Thanks! Like I said I pulled a lot of detail out of it but you know, you have to sometimes to reach a reasonable compromise. Not a lot of people will spend the cash to have people like us work on their wall for days, or weeks. If it had been 1/4th this size I could have put in more detail in ten hours.

I think it's why a lot of murals are not that great artistically but I think I did pretty good on this one from a mural standard.

LOL maybe, but you had about 10 times the detail i'm sure and we all know double the detail takes quadruple the time. :)
    Thanks though!

The worst part on this one was that my calves were sore from the constant skateboarding motion I was doing to keep my balance on the wobbly scaffold.

I've started reading the thread, saw 10 hours and then the first photo, which I thought was your actual work and thought wtf, how could that be painted in 10 hours:) Then scrolling down the page I saw it was the reference.
But what you've done for 10 hours is very good!

HAHAHa. I wish that was it, in ten hours.
I can do more like Bob ross style, landscape stuff really fast. That has the appearance of much more detail, But not like a photo! The problem was this guy wanted to be sure if he was going to sell the house, the mural could be painted over if need be. So everything had to be sprayed in order to have no texture or brush strokes all over the place.

I also could not use projection. I don't own a projector with a .5 throw ratio.
I could have done a grid, but felt it un-necessary for the placements since I wasn't going for complete accuracy. So the whole thing was done freehand and just , looking at the referance and going to town.

The whole thing is a compromise. But thank you for the compliment!
I thought I did pretty well for the terms and conditions.

Now this is why i actually like government sponsored art. The budget for this would have been 8-10K
and I could have taken the time to make it as close to photoreal as I am capable of.

Projector in such cases is just great thing. I've got short throw one, bought specially for projecting the references. I find BenQ the best for functionality and price.

After this post of yours, it's the first time I thought maybe it was good to go to the US, because of those gvmnt orders:D 8-10 sounds not that bad at all!:)

Corporate is usually pretty close to that too. Murals I can usually get something like $200 m/2 , plus materials.
I do a lot more than murals though. I do pretty much fake anything. From concrete to fiberglass to carbon fiber to real wood.
But the competition is pretty fierce anywhere other than florida and california. I am struggling here in NC. I am going to have to start traveling.

I thought, you have there more $$$ for m/2:) It's like our low prices.

After your link to US supplier of resins and pumped golf cart I thought, you're in that field:)
Definitely, you've got competition there, I can only imagine that. Your country is the most developed in custom works of any kind.

I wish the best of luck to you! People knowing that much and having good experience should earn well $$$ $$$;)

I stopped in a truckstop the other day and saw this, and it made me think of Robby. These photos are off of Google- I didn't have time to take any pictures myself. Yes those are parts of real planes! ls.jpg ls-1.jpg

That's pretty cool! Wish I could get some more, My work has really dried up when winter came.
Thats exactly how I prefer to do murals though. If at all possible I work in 3d elements, real or sculpted
