Here is where the fun starts: I found the image of the woman in Facebook and I just felt that it is perfect for this story. I am using a 9x12 clay board with gesso. Here I transferred the line drawing. Masked the girl using a transparent book protector. It behaves the same as a frisket but it is thicker and cheaper. Using Wicked Detail Smoke Black and my micron, I drew the textures for the eye. Then applied detail yellow as a base. I carefully erased my reflections to keep it white then sprayed Detail Crimson red until I get the saturation I want. I then went back and reinforced the black and the reflections. This is what it looks like without the mask. And this is where I ended today's session.
I have a specific idea on how the dragon would look as far as colors are concerned. I also are very fond of creating my darks using complimentary colors. I just don't know which hue of red would work great with which hue of green. So I tried all combinations: Finally I settled on Golden's Jenkins green and Createx deep red.
Using small figure 8's, the red goes down first, heavier where it will be darker (shadow ares). Green on top. Scratching for highlights. Just to give you a sense of size... I am using a blade for more precise highlights and a pencil eraser for more general highlights. Here's where I stopped. Hopefully I can get more done a little later today...
Thank you Patrick... it's more of a forest/marsh land dwelling dragon.. This is where I would leave it for the night. It's time for me to get dinner ready...
After a few hours of work... scales are a lot like hair, in my opinion, very time consuming but really worth the effort...
Great job with the colour and the scales. This is looking really good. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Continuing on: Shadows in first... Colors in and shadows are re-adjusted. Started work on the mouth. I am pretty much using the same 3 colors for the whole dragon, deep red, Jenkins green and magenta black... Further adjustments on the darks. Using burnt umber, I did the horns and teeth. And at this point, I think it's time to move onto the heroin of our little tale. I still have some adjustments to do but I will do it after I put in the rest of the composition.
This is getting better and better. Thanks for the SBS regarding the colour and shadows too. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
