Im not sure if this is the right place for this, but @RichardH has got my head realin with this thing they call scratchboard. I did some research on this and found out that this was really popular in the late 1800's and into the 20th century, but it gas become a dying art as most have went to the digital age. Now what they use is mostly clayboard with india ink on top of it. Ive looked in every art shop in the city and cant find it. Every shop that has a web site says they have it but in a warehouse and not the store. So my mind working like it does started searching for another way and i think ive found it. I had another 5x7 piece of gesso board lying around so i shot the panel with india ink. Damn fogot to resize pics to fit. Pics will come in the next post.

Yeah thats the paper. Boards work alot better. Ok here is the panel before And here it is after They say to give it 2 hours complete drying but thats if your coating clayboard so ill give it the same amount of time. I will post my results when i start to scratch.
Herb, that is scratchpaper. Ampersand is the brand name for scratchboard. They have a lot of products to offer. Most scratch artist use Ampersand brand. Their clayboard is very good.
I do have some scratch paper that Richard sent me but on the first one i got to heavy with a blade and went down to the clear plastic sheath.
Most scratch artist use an exacto knife with #11 blade. I use anything sharp that I have on hand. Ampersand even has their own instruments to scratch with. Fiber brushes, hard erasers, brass cleaning brushes for fur and whiskers, tatoo needles etc. etc. I even use a paasche needle that I have spares for sometimes.
Their is a group on facebook that I follow and belong to. It's scratchboard artist. You might look at it and see what others can do with it. Some are very good at it. I tried to attach the site here but couldn't figure out how to make it work.
