    evening all.
Ive got a reference i want to do but dont know how to do this texture. The pic is just a small section as i dont want to reveal the whole thing.

If you look some of it looks the reverse to the other. I could use like netting for some as that would give me the lighter lines and darker infill but have no idea how to reverse it.
Hope you can understand what i mean.

I'm not sure if this is going to work, but its worth making a test before doing all that freehand :p

The pic is a bit small but it looks like the stripe pattern on the left is about the same grey scae as the highlights on the right.

Paint it that "midtone" mask it with a net. On the left fog over a lighter tone, on the right fog over a darker tone. In the transition area it might requier a bit more carefull work but I think that should more or less result in what is on the picture

Oooooh, watching this with interest. I think the netting is the answer... have you checked Ed Hubbs out? He has some great custom stuff along those lines, particularly for doing carbon patterns.

Netting for screen doors/windows would work. Or you could spend 2 days with a knife and stencil it....

This depends on how big the squares will be on what i would use.

As for how to go about the flip, that depends on background color.
On a black background i.would as Haasje pointed out use the grey midtone, going to the blend leaving the black where the right hand side is
Then i would break out to me looks like carbone fiber stencil (or some people call that shelf liner) use grey over everything and shade as necessary while my mask was on. Pull up and be done.

    Thanks for the replies all:thumbsup:

I think that this is now sorted as to a sensible approach, @haasje dutchairbrush not only gave me a theoretical approach to this but was also intrigued on how to achieve it, he done a practical on it along with an sbs on how to achieve the texture.
Even though he said he only spent a short time on the sample the result was stunning and very believe able for what I intend to use it on.
That part I won't reveal at the moment, you'll just have to wait for the wip thread.

Thanks Robert for taking the time for this, you went above and beyond again.

It wouldn't take me two days with a knife, I'm from Glasgow where a knife is like American express, you just don't leave home without it, when someone here said I should start practicing dagger strokes my street looked like the aftermath of a battle scene from brave heart:eek: I wasn't familiar with the technical terms back then:confused:

I had a couple ideas of what it might be, but decided not to guess.... lol. Im sure it will look great. Reminds me of the texture below, from something thats probably not the same thing and completely different altogether!

Hello from fl. Im just a beginner into airbrushing but im still on some basics so im looking at this as basics. To me it looks like what you can do is paint a base color of grey( because it looks like all the inbetween lines are grey) and if you can use a net great! Put the net over and then add your colors or highlights. In this pic it looks like black fading into white. So if im right and you take the net off you should see the grey lines which was under the net and you should see some sort of shape like that fading in colors if the shape of the net or stencil is consistant you can pull that off!!
