I received a new Badger Renegade Krome RK1 in the mail last Thursday. It was shipped without a needle nozzle. I found out the hard way. I ran lots of cleaner through it after its firehose impression, but now something is clogged. All it will do is blow air back into the color cup. You'd think it would be easy to figure out what is clogged, but I am stumped.

Badger is not one of my favorite companies at the moment. I'll soon see how their Customer Care is.

have you put the extra needle and nozzle in it? they will send you the stuff to fix it, or a whole new one. as far as the air in the cup, it is just not sealed good around the regulator. you need to put some thread tape on it and you will be fine. I always put 2 wraps of tape on all of mine to be sure. even my iwatas. I understand your frustration though. all I can say though is yes they do mess up a good bit, but they always make it right with the customer.

That sucks. Ken and the gang at Badger have always been top notch in their customer service with me, and I'm sure they'll get it resolved for you.

Do you mean something like teflon tape? The stuff you might use on compressor/regulator fittings?

Hi there flytier, I had a similar problem with my badger sotar, until i realised that the nozzle cap (regulator) wasn't on properly - two fixes for that - A - make sure it is tight without crossing the threads, and use PTFE (that white plumbers tape) OR lipice on the threads. This seals the thread and prevents the blowback. blowback wont let any paint out, so it might not be a blockage at all. Its probably a good idea to put the lip ice (or high quality lube) on all the threads anyway.

    hope this helps :)

One other question, where did you buy the airbrush from? Coast? Chicago AB Supply? Amazon? Some other vendor? Sometimes it's the vendors fault (not likely with Coast though) and they inadvertently sent out a return item instead of a new one (I've heard of Chicago doing that a few times). PITA I tell ya but hey, Ken will make it right for ya!

Thank all of you SOOOO much!!! After some RTFM action (or at least the parts list) to determine what a "spray regulator" is, I determined that my Krome arrived with neither a needle nozzle nor a Spray Regulator installed on the AB. Per Seamonkey, I put the other needle in, the needle nozzle, and the spray regulator... all snugged up with teeny slivers of teflon tape. No more blowback into the cup.

As to where I bought it, it was Amazon. I've bought a fair amount of stuff from Amazon and never had a problem with anything until now. Plus, I get free shipping on most things. The jury's still out as to whether I received an Amazon return or if Badger slipped-up.

At any rate, thanks to your posts, I am more informed about the mechanics of the Krome and the possible practices of [insert 3rd party vendor] and will get with Badger to see how we can get things straightened-out

    Thanks again!

Sorry I don't have more time to reply, but I'm getting ready to head to KKBO tomorrow so little time for forum particpation.

Send me an email on this - direct to kenbadger00@gamil.com

I'll try to get you assistance while I'm abroad. If unable to, I'll help you out when I get back from the UK.

One thing I do know is that it isimpossible for a a Badger airbrush to ship from the factory without a tip or needle in it. The just don't test properly without those parts. So I'll speculate you got a previously purchased Krome. I can't help that occuring, but we'll get you straighetned out asap.

when you email me please include your address - as this may just require getting you a UF needle/nozzle conversion kit - and although we don't have to just send it out without cost, we probably will.

just a suggestion- use beeswax on the threads instead of Teflon tape. It's a LOT easier to work with than cutting tiny pieces of Teflon tape into little ribbons. Lip balm (the stick type) can work, too. But you can buy a brick of beeswax for cheap at any craft or hobby store, and it will last you until pigs fly. I try to find the softer, more pliable beeswax over the rock-hard stuff. Out of curiosity, was this airbrush sold as pre-owned, or advertised as new?

DARN - I forgot about the beeswax. also available from good bow (and arrow) shops if you cant find anywhere else. but tends to be harder.

I'm going to change the title of this thread from 'Not Happy With Badger' to 'Not Happy With Amazon'. In some cases people may quickly browse this forum and see the title of the post without reading the thread.
While we encourage people to let us know things have gone wrong and bad experiences, we are not here to promote these things, instead we prefer to act as a middle man and contact the company involved to find a resolution. 99% of the time it is a misunderstanding, but the company gets hurt in the process and that's not what this forum is about.
I'm glad Ken has offered his help to you on this flytier, Badger is highly regarded for their customer service, however it appears that this has very little to do with Badger!
In saying this, you can PM me if you do not find a resolution and we'll try to help you out also.

That sucks, I've rarely had problems when dealing with amazon 'directly'. Now, some of their vendors I've had problems with. In fact I've gone out of my way recently to not buy anything paint related from amazon, all my business goes to Coast.

I thought I replied to this a couple of days ago. Anyhow... The teflon tape trick worked beautifully. While looking at the parts included with the other needle, I realized that I was originally missing both a needle nozzle and a spray regulator. I am about to see of I can get in touch with Ken to see what we can do. Bikergranny, I got the thing through Amazon. I guess the free shipping was the big draw. I've bought a bunch of stuff through from Amazon over the years. This is the first time things went awry.

Anyhow thanks so much for the comments and advice!
