Photo size restrictions?

I know that I need to resize my photos to post them here. Bit of a pain, but okay. I can't seem to to find the limits anywhere. As I'm a "limit-pusher", I'd like to know what they are. Any help out there?

I resize mine from full raw to 1200X1600 pixels that makes the forum take them without issues. and should make them about 655kb

I stick to 1000px or sometimes smaller on the longest end. If I do a small picture I don't want the online one to be bigger. It just shows more of the flaws.
