The 5$ easel made in less than an hour

I needed an easel but couldn't afford to buy one so I started looking at DIY ones but they were not cheap to make, most were about 30$ or more in materials.

I came up with a cheap quick easel that works for me.

1. 1"x6"x8' board cut into 3 strips.

2. one 1/4" bolt about 4", 2 washers, and nut (I used a counter bolt as I had some leftover)

3. 3 eye screws

4. a short piece of dowel rod cut in two pieces for shelf support, taper the ends slightly.

5. board for a shelf, I glued on some stoppers to prevent me from knocking the shelf off the dowels.

6. some string

Drill large hole for the bolt 3/8 or so through all three strips at one end, leave space between the boards and the nut to allow the legs to splay.

Place the eye screws on the back of the front legs and on the front of the back leg.

Open the legs at your preferred distance and tie them off with the string.

Drill holes to match the dowel. Drill extra holes if needed to change the height of the work.

A hook on the end of the shelf allows you to hang it from the rear eye screw to make it compact for storing when not in use.

LMAO Jim you know the fezzie wink too well..

Dude!! this was so freaking helpful! I made one this past weekend and man..so much easier to actually see my work other then flat on a surface..
Thanks so much

I made mine at 2 1/2' I am able to put it on my home made desk and fold it away when not in use. left over scrap from wood projects I always have going on. Almost all of my shop has home made stands and drawing desk paint desk Just everything is home made because it is cheaper and allows me to afford the materials for painting and wood working with my power carver. I'm glad you put yours on here for others, it does save a crafter a few dollars . great job JCD.
