CALz AyrWKz Log Started September, 2013

CALz AyrWKz

Air-Valve Autobot!
I read all about Captain Cordy's Log and decided to join in.

First of all, it has been officially one year since I picked up the airbrush.
This is my very first painting, one year ago.

These are my completed paintings for September, 2013.

I am pleased with the progress I have made during the year.

My goal for the future will be to continue to work on the quality of my paintings and to complete at least two nice pieces a month. I will post my completed works in a single entry at the end of each month.

Great start Cheryl, really glad you took the time to join in, help will always be on hand if needed.

Okay, I know its the end of October, so I am signing into my monthly log.

This month I drew out and painted a T-shirt design.

I also painted this small laptop case. Nothing too special.

I've also been busy preparing for 2 projects. Most of my free time has been spent drawing out designs for a new mailbox for the family and a hood for a hot rod.
Mailbox1a.jpgMailbox2a.jpg
These are basic sketches and each character incorporates the interests of each member of my family and the four cats that we love. I started painting the mailbox and this is where I'm at as of this date.
IMG_2919a.jpgI'm currently working on values. The details will be added later. This is being done all freehand.

As to the hood for the hot rod, I scuffed the clear coat, painted it with sealer dark and then base coated it with opaque black. I haven't started painting the mural yet because I wanted to get the brush back in hand and get the paint flowing again with the mailbox project.

Here is the design for the center scoop on the hood which will be about 19 inches wide and 32 inches long. Again, this is just a sketch and the basic layout.
Layout 10-31-13.jpgThe writing on the tombstone is to be determined by the client later. The next step will be to transfer the layout and begin painting.

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

To see where you are after a year, makes me jealous, I have been airbrushing 14 months. I feel i am not as far along as you. I also feel i am the one holding me back. Trying to get through that.

Love the Kiss skulls for the hot rod hood by the way. Cool idea.

The client is an avid Kiss fan and wanted them incorporated into a skull and snake mural. He also wanted a tombstone. This is what I came up with and he loved it. The layout has been approved by my worst critics, my hubby and the kids. It will most likely morph as I go along.

Cool stuff!!! I really like the skull with the engine coming out. Hood design looks great too. Kiss are coming to the UK next year, time to stock up on facepaint!!!!!

I'm a tiny bit late posting my work for November. So, here goes:
I did a quick painting on an inexpensive vinyl pencil case.

I prepped my client's hood. Sanding, cleaning, base coating and top coating it from its original dark green to black. Thanks for the guidance there Mitch and Foreveryoung.

I continued work on the mailbox project and finished the airbrush work on the sides and top. I still have to pinstripe the numbers and possibly the transition lines to the top of the box. I haven't decided.
IMG_3363a.jpgIMG_3365a.jpgIMG_3364a.jpgThanks for the guidance on this one Haasje and Micron.

In preparation for the hood project, I spent some time cutting my own stencils for different sized skulls to make my work a little quicker. As of this date, I have commenced work on the hood, mapping and sketching the layout. This is where I'm at as of this date.
IMG_3389a.jpgLots of work to do here. :)

So looking forward to seeing how that hood comes out Cheryl! Loving the dragon and the mailbox too. I didn't know you could stripe, I am going to be giving that a try in the new year as hubs is getting me some pinstriping gear for xmas.

Ooooh, some striping brushes and paints. Santa is being good to you. LOL Here's a tip.. when striping, look at where you want to go, not at the paint brush. :)

Thanks Cheryl, I shall no doubt be screaming out for advice in this area, so all tips gratefully received.

Okay, so I've missed logging in for several months. For good reason, I've been working diligently on the hood project and now it is officially done. Client picked it up tonight and he is extremely happy with it. Whoo hoo. My first automotive project under my belt!

Here are the pics.
