Bought a CM-SB Hooraay!! Came with a cracked nozzle Boo Hoo!!

"Factory set" then, in the quote below they call it "fine-tuning". And no, it would not make the Micron useless, it would make it "not factory set" or "not factory fine-tuned". This is what it says on the Anest Iwata website about the Micron;

"In the final stage of production, experienced engineers conduct a spraying test for every airbrush to be shipped. Only those proven to meet our stringent criteria are put on the market."

and

"The nozzle head system, which consists of four parts, undergoes repeated spray testing and fine-tuning until the spray characteristics are as perfect as possible. When the need for parts replacement arises, it is recommended to replace the whole head set (all of the four parts)."

Here's a link to the webpage; Custom Micron Series | Airbrushes | Coating Equipment & System | ANEST IWATA Corporation

My brand new Micron will not be fine-tuned anymore. I will have to replace a part, through no fault of my own, before I have even sprayed any paint and "factory set/fine-tuned" or not ..... that totally flaming sucks!!!!!!!

I fully expect it to work fine AndreZA otherwise I would NEVER agree to except just a new nozzle, that would be really, really stupid! :) I know you are only trying to reassure me so thanks for that and for the tips on putting in a new nozzle.
I still don't know if he has heard from Iwata or not so I'm not sure what is going to happen yet.

Sounds familiar. My company blows smoke up peoples asses in order to get sales too. ;)

That is actually funny. This means almost nobody's micron sprays the way it should because most people paint without a needle cap. I'm even worse, mine has a modified one chinese knock-off. Imagine buying a complete head system because you lost your needle cap. :smile-new::smile-new::smile-new:

Oh trust you Squishy!! Ha Ha Ha! I should have known it would be you to lower the tone ;)
Hahahaha I was going to make a similar comment hehe :) god bless Trish for being here!

Mel.. it's going to be fine. the 'Replace all four pieces deal' may be if you've used your airbrush that extensively that the needle has worn and is set to your nozzle. once you replace the nozzle, the needle won't set correctly as it's worn! This may happen after years but generally won't be an issue with Iwata.. that's why one pays the big bucks.
I think Lion-Arts solution of sending you a replacement and them sorting it out is a good one - a tip of the hat to them.:eagerness:

Hi Mitch, yes I spoke to Iwata myself and they said my contract is with Lion-Art so it is his place to sort it out with me and his contract is with them and they will sort it out with him no problem.

I got the new nozzle, it is not centered in the nozzle cap but it still sprays. The hole in the nozzle cap is very, very small so the slightest off allignment makes it seem to touch the side and gives a miniscule margin for error. You have to click the photo to see and even then it's hard but if you look at around 10 o'clock it looks like it's touching the side of the the hole and at 5 o'clock there's a gap. But WOW is that a tight fit!!

I had other issues with it that I can't be bothered to explain because I'm just tired of the whole situation but I think I've sorted those now. I have to see how it works over the coming weeks. At least it is working.
Thanks for your reassurance.
Cheers Mel

Glad you got sorted. There's a bit of play in the nozzle cap. Keep it to the one side while you screw it on. You will see the needle does not pull back perfectly center either. But it does not effect performance.

Thanks for the tip of keeping the nozzle cap to one side when screwing it on AndreZA, I'll try it out when I'm feeling a bit braver LOL :) But for now it's working so I'm not touching it :)

Mel, how are you getting on with the micron? I have also been looking at the reduced cost v1 microns, but not so sure after your experience.

Mel, just to let you know i brought my micron cheap because it had the needle and nozzle missing. I replaced both and to be honest it sprays so good i dont care if it wasnt factory set. Lets see what youve done with it then..

Hi Nik,
I'm afraid I haven't really used my wonderful new CM-SB but when I tried it out after getting the replacement nozzle, it was absolutely fine. If it turns out to be anything like my Olympos Micron it will be fantastic. I think I was just unlucky when I bought mine and I wouldn't let my experience put you off getting one Nik. Also my situation was resolved by the supplier.

Hi Lee,
If I'd bought my Micron SB knowing it had issues then I wouldn't have been bothered either but I bought mine as a new airbrush and therefore expect it to arrive in new condition. When it arrived damaged I was understandably very disappointed, that's all!! :) Great to hear you've bagged yourself a Micron, nice one!!

For lots of different reasons I've not been airbrushing at all in the last months so I don't have any artwork to show you Lee. I'm hoping to lay down some paint soon but I'm not sure if I'll be showing it because I'm going to be experimenting :)

Cheers guys
Mel

Mel, shame you not spraying at the moment, but just to say that your YouTube videos were the main instigating factor in me starting up again. ( along with the airbrush tutor) So thanks, your information was invaluable as a beginner and just maybe, knowing that will just give you a little boost to start up again.

Good luck

Thanks Nik, it does my heart good to hear that :) Yes I will get back to painting. Life keeps getting in the way and I have some on going health problems which effects my energy levels. I also wanted to step away for a while to clear my head so I could open it up for some new ideas. I now have a few projects I want to throw some paint at but I'm taking my time so I can enjoy myself and not care if I mess up.
Cheers Mel :)

Hey Mel will be looking forward to seeing that, and experiments are cool even if they don't turn out exactly as you thought, the results will be of interest to everyone. Hope you're doing ok, :)

Hi Squishy, ok since you asked me "real nice'n'all" :) I'll see about posting my experiment results but be warned they might not be pretty!! lol Ha Ha Ha!!! Cheers Mel

Yay! Thanks hun! I sometimes think experiments are have more learning value than anything else, so def worth showing. :) Really good to see you around here too :D

@Squishy So I finally got my airbrushes dusted off today and put them through a work out. Hooraa!!! Dots, lines, dagger strokes and blends a plenty :) So those experiments should be happening in the near future

CM-SB update
I have to say I wasn't too impressed with my CM-SB initially so I swapped out the heads and needles with my Olympos MP200C. I was surprised that the 0.18mm CM head sprayed better on the Olympos body and the 0.23mm Olympos head improved the spray on the CM body. At first the Etac FX was not spraying well at all but the Com-Art was much better, after a bit of messing about with the paint I managed to get them both spraying ok.

Because I'd swapped out the head units I knew the problem with the CM-SB was not there. When doing lines it was obviously skipping slightly so it could only be the air supply leaking somewhere. After finishing for the day I changed the needle packing from PTFE back to the original rubber o-ring, I've adjusted the air valve and given the whole airbrush a stripped down clean and lube.

I have left the Olympos 0.23mm head unit and needle on the CM-SB as I'd been thinking of doing that anyway and will try it again tomorrow and see if my adjustments have sorted the skipping.
