does anyone know if the needle and nozzle are the same threads and can be swapped between the sp-b and the micron?

anyone have a sp-b is so what are your thoughts on it vs a micron?

TIA

Yes, they have the same threads of paint nozzles and air nozzles and can be interchangeable. Though, Iwata's air nozzle has slightly shorter "tube" with threads a the time anything else is the same. I've bought Iwata's micron nozzles for Olympos airbrushes, they perfectly fit.

Hey, is that you who's made the first bid on e-bay for SP-B?;)
I've seen that, but I don't like any of B models, just my preference.

You can expect the same performance from SP series as from micron series for they have the same spraying system and interchangeable parts (paint and air nozzles, also needles). I mean SP (Olympos) and CM (Iwata). In case of SP and MP series from Olympos - parts are totally identical, except AB bodies.

That bid isn't me but I will be watching it closely.
Thanks for the info, at least now I know I can buy a needle/nozzle for the sp series from coastairbrush.

The bidder was actually me. After a tear down and cleaning out old oil and re lubing is sweeter than sugar. I'm a new member/poster here but have been airbrushing for about 40 years now.

Congrats on your new good tool!:) For a price of iwata micron nozzle;)
BTW, are needle and nozzle OK?

Vladimir,

Like I mentioned before, all was pristine after a tear down with some acetone to remove old oil and re lube. It was nice to have the original box and price tag. I checked the 19,000¥ out as to actual price in 1984- $235US. Sounds about right before the local retail markup I saw at Lee's in NYC growing up.

Vladimir,

I forgot to mention it but the needle fluid cone had a slight light bend in the threaded portion but I had a spare Olympos .18 fluid cone on hand and swapped it out. After a little time dialing it in all is AOK.

Just picked up a mint Olympos hp-100sb looks and operates as being brand new, two color cups (the metal ones) for $70, not the best deal but for the condition its in I think I got a good deal.

I would absolutely order a micron from them if they made a side feed since a can't operate the trigger with a normal gravity feed color cup, still keeping my eyes open for a sp series and a hp-sbs.

I understand what you are getting at for the side feed as it is also my preference. I do not understand though why you want an Iwata Eclipse SBS if you have the Olympos 100SB? I have both and to my eyes perform identically. Now that I have the SP-B, I will get rid of the extra HP-100SB as it serves no purpose to have identically performing airbrushes on hand. You could mod a 100SB into a Micron as I have one so mod'ed out and it is a sweet little brush and retains the side feed. From what I have seen, $70 for a near mint 100SB is a steal as the current retail is between 100 to 200US. If you want to make a Micron, let me know as it's pretty easy with the 100SB and the parts from Olympos.

I've got the same preference regarding SB and operating the trigger, that's why I bought MP-200A. You can buy it now for ridiculous price.

Nothing stands out on the finger's way.
While MP-200C is totally inconvenient for me.
MP-200A can produce fine details more easily than CM-SB for smaller paint nozzle size (you need to find proper paint reduction for this brush). Yes, they're both "0.18 mm", but in reality iwata's nozzle has bigger hole. I'm saying only about the nozzle holes, though:) CM-SB is great!

Why wouldn't you post it up here, so other people could see that? I'm interested.

I already have a cm-sb with a few custom touches, custom needle, zolt soft spring, and in a few days a custom TiN coated side cup and rear handle and black cup and handle as well.

I want the eclipse to use as a .5mm brush for backgrounds, pearls and metallic.

hmmm, I am going to have to raid my brush cabinet, cause I can't see how you make a Micron from an HP100SB. I would guess if the guts, needle, and nozzle from the HP200 all fit the 100sb body, that you could have a .18 side feed that uses the same nozzle and needle as a Micron, but the head being part of the body alters the potential air passage - I would guess it would be most similar in performance to the 1 hole head on a Micron? That being said, the Hp200b with a .18 nozzle and needle is a mighty nice spraying little brush - so, if it does all fit the 100sb body, it would be a cool little brush.

*eyes glaze over* so if I take the heads off my Testarossa and put them on my Countach, with the hood from the... Oh ok! Now I understand!

Yeah, the gist I'd gotten from past convos is that the Iwata models the HP-100SB is most compatible with is the HP (non-plus) series, which are not part compatible with the Microns. That would indicate Micron parts can't be used on the 100SF without re-machining the brush significantly, and that would negate the cost advantages of doing such a conversion.

I'm guessing he's referring to something like what's alluded to here:

Which is similarly frustrating in its coyness. If the parts are publicly available, then it isn't trade secret material. Just tell us.

The nozzle from the micron does not fit the hp-sb.

The "poor man's micron" is a combination of hp-sb parts and hp-c.
The exact combination I'm unsure of but I know one thing it's definitely still not a micron.

It's either a .3 nozzle with .2 needle or the other way around.

No its not a secret at all. The MP-200C head and internals do fit the 100SB. I have one from Frank Artale-Olympos that I purchased from him on eBay. It gets down every bit as fine as the SP-B I just recieved and finer than the Iwata Eclipse SBS. I'll hit the Olympos site but the only parts that need replacing are;

-fluid nozzle to .18
-needle to .18
-front spray cap
-main fluid nozzle cap
-200C back body
-internal needle guide
-internal spring guide/hold screw in section (has not he's around the circumference).

Nothing more needs to be replaced.

The video is Franks, and he was trying hard to bring Olympos back into the US. I am pretty sure whatever deal they were working on fell apart, and parts dried up on this side of the pond... There are many of his posts in this section if you look back further.

From my perspective in this post, all the parts I am talking about are Olympos - the Hp100sb, and hp200b are Olympos models that are sill available from Japan...
