Just saying hello

Kim McCann

Mac-Valve Maestro!
Long time lurker, not much of a poster so far.

I'm Kim, an artist and engineer from Vancouver. First picked up an airbrush in the late 80s while still in school. Went through art school, where I learned mostly that I hated art school. However, I love illustration and painting and have been at it since then. So, while not my day job, I still do a lot of artwork on the side.

I do tend to work on erotic pieces, so rarely post them online as they are usually NSFW, but some of my more PG-13 work and fantasy pieces I may shortly get around to posting up here.

Loved lurking and reading all the fantastic advice.

Hi Kim nice of you to finally introduce yourself :D
I would love seeing your work even if it is only the PG-13 rated stuff ,
So now Welcome Home !

Welcome from the UK Kim. We’re mostly adults here (by age at least) LOL. So I’m sure we can handle the PG13 stuff. I’m not sure what the rules are regarding the rest, but I’m sure Mr.Micron or JackEB can let you know.

We only allow artistic nudity, sultry nudity. Definitely no raunchy stuff. Even then it’s to have the words ‘Adult content ‘ in the title. If in doubt the send the pic to one of the mods and we will put it to a vote.

Welcome to the forum Kim, Nice to see you finally pluck up the courage to make a post. We're a good bunch, a bit strange, mostly in the head lol We would love to see some of your paintings. I hope the posts we make have helped you in some way even though you have airbrushed for a long time.
I love the fact that we can all still learn new stuff here on the OAF even after painting for years myself.

Hope you stay a while

Lee

Welcome aboard Kim! Nothing wrong with "lurking", a.k.a. researching. lol What do you have for equipment, paints, etc?

Iwata Micron, Eclipse and HP-C, Harder and Steenbeck Infinity, a couple of Grex models, and two Master Series I don't really use, but bought to experiment with. Mostly I use the H&S or Micron, or Eclipse if I have to spray pearls or big pigment stuff. I started with a Paasche back in the 80s, but outgrew it pretty quick. I may still have it in a box somewhere. But yeah, the Micron and the Infinity get pretty much all my love.

I was a big fan of Golden Airbrush colors, but when they discontinued and switched to their High flow formula, I moved to using mostly Wicked colors. I also keep a stock of base createx on hand as I like the transparents for finishing work. I also like working with Fw Inks for smaller works because they spray beautifully, but their coverage isn't great, so they aren't economical for bigger works. Mostly Wicked detail colors tho, as they are easy to get locally and I prefer a matte finish. Easier for me to manage colors.

I still have a stock of the old Golden airbrush colors, but I am stingy using them because if I run out, I can't get any more. LOL.

I have come around to liking the golden high flow for some stuff, but they aren't my "go-to".

My only complaint about Wicked is that reducing them is a bit of a black art, and can be different bottle to bottle even with the same color.
