What I would like to know please?
Which brands, types of paint would be suitable for an exterior sandblasted, multi level carved glass panel in an exterior door. Being very new,to airbrushing, so excuse me asking.Would I be looking at opaque and transparent paints for this application?
Cheers.

In order of budget

For opaques id suggest folkart enamel, but it will need clear coated for uv exposure.
You can clear with a uv blocking enamel clear after 24 hours dry time.
For transparent id suggest this stuff
https://www.amazon.com/Permanent-Glass-Lacquer-1-5-ounce-Professional/dp/B018C2MFNC

Do your reducing with lacquer thinner for a little slower dry time And stay light on the coats, it runs pretty easy.
better if you you use a uv blocking clear lacquer on top but not totally necessary.

Most will have a fair amount of fading in direct sunlight.

oneshot is another option

and really most 2k auto urethanes will work, they can be scraped off smooth glass with some effort but they stick pretty well and well are as durable as a car

Now if money is no object...https://www.glasspaint.com/shop/complete-package-of-self-priming-paint-catalyst/

Id suggest painting from the inside if possible

I know painting from the inside wont do much for the sanblasted parts but depending on what youre going for....
without a better understanding of your project I just kind of threw it all out there

Oh and probably obvious but just for clarity i dont mean to reduce the folkart w lacquer thinner, just the other stuff.
Folkart enamel likes just water

Edit; and I realize that youre UK so the folkart probably doesnt apply. maybe something pebeo sells or decoart that would be similar.....IDK

Glass is carved from inside.
Folkart enamel is available in UK, reading up on it, requires long air dry time, 21 days.
The Amazon link, I like the look of that, has lot of postive users opinions, quick drying time but can't locate in UK. One review refers to Pebeo Vitrail Stained Glass Effect Glass Paint solvent based, which requires a minimum drying time of 72 hours and has to dry in a dust-free environment.
One shot seems durable but don't see any opaque, transparent options. Looked at DecoArt but dosn't seem suitable.

Dont overlook the Createx airbrush colors - its the one that is usually used for textile / leather / vinyl.

when used with the 4030 you should get the results you are after - the 4030 is built for hard surfaces. (you'll likely need the 4012 as well, there are posts here about the the 4012 and the 4030 not playing nicely if you dont mix in the correct sequence. )

if you have some other createx paint around you could try that, just because we use it mostly for art pieces it doesnt mean that all it can do.

One thing you may not yet have taken into consideration is that any of the paints will likey fade out in the sun without the proper clearcoat protection from UV. You could possibly sandwich the painting between the clear coat if you can get it to stick to the glass in the first instance.

.Would I be looking at opaque and transparent paints for this application?
Cheers.

If you are seeking a 'stained glass' type of look then the transparent would be my choice. while the opaque will allow some light to pass it wont be 'see through'

OK thanx for the input. " One thing you may not yet have taken into consideration is that any of the paints will likey fade out in the sun without the proper clearcoat protection from UV " Yes thats been pointed that out to me.

Apologies, sometimes it’s hard to keep up with Robbie’s posts lol

I apologize. I of course assumed there was some reason you didnt want to use the AB paints. I would definitely try @JackEb 's route first.
I know wicked sticks to smooth glass almost just as well as anything else

Also @Malky has I believe done a lot of paint on glass and would know whats available over there.

I've only ever done sign-writing and striping on glass, we did the areas to be painted first with clear glass size which is similar to gold size used for gold leading, after that any paint could be applied, unfortunately I'm not much help on any paints or primers suitable for glass.

I would imagine that isn't much air-drying that would dry quickly on glass since it is totally non-porous.

I would contact companies that do glass printing on drinking glasses to find out what they use, I would assume some kind of heat set enamel.

OK thanx for helpful info. Raphael Schnepf in his colouring sandcarved glass tutorial DVD uses ComArt.
As your experienced with glass painting. I would value your opinion on which paints, not just water based. That could create a nice effect on the inside of multi level carved glass?
Cheers :)

As I explained above I've only ever used clear glass size on glass for leafing and sign-writing purposes so no real experience with many paints other than standard gloss paints and one shot, but with the glass size you can apply any paint at all on it and expect goid adhesion, since glass is carved adhesion would be even better, although changes in traditions means the glass size will likely be difficult to find otger than in specialist shops, since I haven't used it in over 30 years I coukdnt even tell you where, but I'll certainly have a look around.
