Best cheap compressor for a HVLP

ive bought a Arism Sparmax for my airbrush 0.3 mm .. i later bought a HVLP spray gun but the Sparmax doesn’t create the desired pressure for decent use. What would any one suggest for an eBay purchase ?

Thanks in advance

what is CFM ?
It Cubic Feet Per Minuet. It is the volume of air used to produce air pressure. Most airbrushes at run around 30 to 40 psi, but because the needle and nozzle are so small they don’t use as much volume of air. So with a 1/4” nozzle needle combination you will need at least 5 CFM at 10 psi because more air escapes around the needle. If you Compressor is powerful enough you will run low on air on larger spray areas. I owned an HVLP and tried to use it on a Craftsman 2hp with a 4 gallon air tank and would run out of air before I finish spraying a small area.

Think of it this way. Take a garden hose and you open the valve and a lot of water comes out all at once but not much pressure. Put a spray nozzle on the end of that hose and open the valve again all the way and a lot less water comes out of the Of that hose. Now the only difference is with an airbrush and an HVLP the can both be regulated to 10psi but with that larger opening just like the hose with no sprayer a lot more air comes out at 10 psi, so you need a compressor that can supply a lot of air to keep your air tank full.

What gun do you have? what is its CFM or LPM requirement?
Completely depends on the exact hvlp gun you intend to use......They can run typically from 2cfm to about 16cfm depending on the model . For small stuff you can get away with a compressor with only slightly higher cfm output than your gun requires. For larger things you try to be at around double your required cfm with your compressor.
Assuming you have a mini hvlp (perfect for helmets and tanks), most of them run 2-4cfm so any compressor with 5-6cfm ,like Fred said, should do the trick.
If you wanted to spray a whole car then an 18cfm compressor would be just about minimal with full size HVLP guns.
If you have a full size size gun and you are just spraying a helmet then it gets a little trickier since you spray such a short amount of time. You could use a 10cfm gun on an 8cfm compressor that has a 30gal tank and get away with it.
These days unless you use the compressor 8 hours a day you are unlikely to see a big difference as far as one brand being better than another.

The LPH80 is probably the highest performing, lowest CFM using gun I'm aware of. It really hits way above it's belt and for tanks and helmets it is a great fit. So combine that with a normal compressor that most people have stuffed in the corner of their garage, and it's a win win.

I’ve been offered a compressor at 150 psi the gun I think I would be way getting the details for further discussion
