Weirdly high shipping costs from Netherlands?

I wanted to order a K33 needle and a few other bits, and when I went to go check out, I saw the shipping options were an untracked envelope for 9 euro (about what I'd usually expect for ordinary tracked shipping from Europe to the US, in my experience), or a whopping 27.50 euro for what I presume by contrast is tracked and boxed shipping (I say presume, because unlike the cheaper option it isn't described)

Why so expensive? Is this a Netherlands thing? I've ordered from them before a couple years ago, and I don't remember the shipping being this... comically expensive. I've ordered stuff from all over Europe, and the only country where I've seen shipping costs like this is France (which is even worse, and has done a pretty good job of preventing me from buying from French businesses even when I've wanted to).

Also there was a 6 euro "paypal fee". I've never seen a vendor of any kind anywhere charge a "paypal fee" before, so this seems super weird, and If I didn't know they were a legit respected company, it'd be a big red flag.

All this extra cost ended up scuttling the transaction for me. With everything add up and the exchange rate calculated, I was looking at close to $200 when my before checkout calculations had me at around $140. I really want one of those needles, but I sure as hell wouldn't want such a part shipped in just an envelope (not even locally, never mind overseas), and untracked shipping feels like something that almost shouldn't even exist anymore.

Does anyone know what this is about? Is it a recent development? Is it different if one is ordering from a different country than the US? I look at that shipping and think I might legit be better off paying someone local (to Foxy) to buy it for me and ship it themselves rather than buying direct.

Sorry if I seem frustrated. I just got my first Micron, and a K33 needle was budgeted for in my savings target for the brush, and now that I go to buy it all of a sudden it it's out of reach again... because of a surprise comedy charge in the checkout process.

Unfortunately the cost of shipping is out of Foxy's control, the main post company in the Netherlands is Post.NL and they decide the cost, dumb ass Trump causing havoc throughout Europe and further with export taxes has more than likely pushed up costs, but Foxy has to charge what they charge.

Have you tried emailing Foxy for a nice deal?

I can understand the PayPal fee. Most places just up prices to absorb it but I mean what are they charging 3 percent now?

We used to get OAF members foxy discount, it might be worth giving them a call or sending them a message.

Places charging crazy shipping turns me off. I was about to order 2 nozzles from airbrush.com, and they wanted almost $19. I won't play that game. Don't get people excited about your prices only to hose them to death shipping it. Coast Airbrush has terrible shipping prices as well. They do a % of the sale, which is insane considering how small and expensive airbrushes and parts can be.

I'm one of those guys who will buy more stuff just to get free shipping. Spraygunner has free if over $50.

BTW, I ship stuff everyday and know how expensive it can or CAN'T be.

Air-craft.net here in England are great for shipping. So I've used them a few times. I think it was less than £3 for needle and nozzle. I couldn't believe it because everywhere else was expensive.

I don't know where you are in world but I'm guessing your not in the Netherlands, I know for fact if you were yiur shipping from Foxy's would have been free based on your order, Donald trump imposed hefty import taxes on the whole of Europe as part of his "I want alienate myself from the whole world" campaign, this is the reason for higher shipping costs from Europe to any either non European country, I don't doubt you are well clued up on shipping charges from where you are but you have no clue what Trump has done to punish everywhere that isn't USA, and consequently he has punished USA residents as a result.

Like I said, email Foxy and ask if they can cut you a deal, they're human and value your custom, you could take advantage of the forum discount but that is only 5%, so about $12 based on your order, still doesn't relieve your shipping and the discount doesnt apply to goods that are on special offer which most of the time is just about anything they sell.

Air-craft.net is in Scotland but I guess you meant "Great Britain"lol

hi Malky, dont know if trump have to do with it, but I wanted to buy from Foxy before Trump and the shipping was always 30€ no matter what or how much I buy, same with coast, I paid 30U$ for 2 needles and 2 nozzles, because they ship in boxes, but I have paid 12U$ for ATV parts that wiegthed 2kg in an bigger and tracked boxes, so I can say that the shipping cost is up to the seller, and the best sellers and with the best shipping prices are from UK!

Some places do get deals somehow.
I mean you can get a desktop from Newegg for a couple hundred dollars w free shipping. It would cost me roughly $90 to ship one......
Or any number of examples from Amazon that are $5 including shipping that I know would cost $7 just for me to ship.
Even smaller companies I've seen able to work out deals somehow.
I'm sure some places pass on the shipping savings and I'm sure some places profit from it.

The shipping cost from Foxy is almost the same (27.50E) for here too (Greece). Even from lion-art. As Malky said, it's up to post.nl to decide.

Canada is the same as an European Country as far as The States are concerned. We are their northern neighbor with a border that spans over 4000 kms (not sure of actual length) and the shipping is crazy. I have to find everything here because I can not afford the shipping and the currency exchange. Airbrush parts end up triple the cost...When I ship a paintpal, it is cheaper for me to ship it over seas than down south to the States....figure that one out....lol

I don't think president Skroob's flailing is a factor in this case, as in a tariff war cost hikes would be leveled by the receiving country rather than the country of origin (so customs rather than base shipping). As far as I know, he hasn't garnered us actual trade sanctions...yet.

I did try the forum discount code before my OP, but it was basically only enough to negate the PayPal fee (more or less 7 Euro).

I checked out the costs on UPS and FedEx and NLpost. The former two quoted MONSTROUS shipping prices, like 80-170$. NLpost didn't have an online quote system at all, so I wasn't actually able to successfully check there.

The NLpost website was really bare-bones and in some places bad in really weird ways. Like forcing you to DL a PDF in order to view a list of available destination counties. Wouldn't even let me open the PDF in a browser tab: it FORCED me to DL it, and open it from the desktop. All for a simple one-page plain text list that had literally nothing about it that couldn't have just been put on the website.

So I'm totally willing to believe this is a NLpost thing, not a Foxy thing. Might be possible they could do better by negotiating a deal with another shipping service, but that seems like a business-level move rather than something that could be done for an individual customer.

I suppose part of the difficulty might be that they probably don't do a lot of non-euro business. I mean, as a US buyer, most of what they sell is available from more local sources, so the main reason to order from them is the in-house stuff like the K33 parts and Marissa edition paints. That'd mean they probably don't get enough business volume from the US at least to make seeking out a special shipping deal worthwhile. But that's just guesswork on my part.

Right now I'm thinking I'll just strip my order down to only the needle. That'll bring the needle back into budget... at the amount originally budgeted for the needle plus other parts. The other parts I was looking to get were the K33 prong cap and a Zsolt spring. I've already got an alternate soft spring coming from DaveG, so that's covered. The K33 prong cap would be better than the stock crown cap, but I can ultimately do without it. I don't use the prong caps on my other brushes (I like being able to get closer than they allow for fine lines, and take lots of overlapping precautions to avoid dropping or other potential needle damage), but given the cost of the Micron needle I kinda want to use one with it. If It comes to it, I can buy a spare stock Micron crown cap and cut a prong cap myself like I did for my Eclipse.

I payed:
€19.00 (ex. VAT) via Post NL insured shipping

Package was slightly dent with a little hole :)
off topic.. I suspect their needle balsam is from fat which you get from liposuction -.-

Now think of us in a country that does almost not have a postal system. I use a parcel forward service which means I pay shipping twice and I do not get the tax free. I've worked it out once for a parcel from Europe, it was cheaper to have it sent to my US address (higher shipping but get it tax free) and then forwarded to me than to my EU address (with lower shipping but tax included) and then to me.
