Micron comparison

Double Actioner
First of all I have to admit i’m relatively new to airbrushing but managed to obtain some nice brushes which took a lot of hard work.
I have to hold my hands up after practicing and comparing my CM-SB and the CM-C Plus both V2.
Didn’t think the CM-C could achieve the fine detailing as the SB.But after plenty of time mastering it there isn’t much different between the two.Granted the SB is slightly finer.Surprised myself so it’s staying.
Just buying a brush for priming I only ever use Mr Surfacer 1500 for priming my models. Thanks to Dave for his advice. And I will be contacting you shortly for a few parts.

its amazing how much more detail can be achieved from any brush with a bit of experience. I put off buying a CM-SB for a long time as I have a CM-B but I finally surrendered due to the great feedback it gets, Its now the first brush I pick up.

There are some masters here that could get better details out of an eclipse than I can get out of a micron lol

glad you are enjoying your brushes

Thanks I almost sold it as I kept looking at the CM-B

I own 6, and only have about 30 hours, maybe 35...it got bad for me quick! Lol, nah, I basically was using two of the cheapest Iwatas out there, and a masters brand micron ripoff. I just replaced them all with Mr. Hobby line, because I got such great results from the platinum .2. I def want a custom micron from Iwata, or the SB, but I'd like to use one first before spending that ki d of money. I am really happy with these new brushes though. I am nowhere near practiced, let alone master, but where I struggled with my eclipse, I breeze with the new Mr.hobby. my painting doubled just by getting that new brush. That being said-there is no substitute for experience!

many of us started with cheap 'generic' type brushes and once we figured out that this was fun we progressed quickly to brand names, some like me stick with one brand there are many here that have a mixed breed collection, then you get @DaveG who seems to have one of pretty much everything available and is known to Frankenstein some of them to create something new and very useable.

I don't know what JackEb is talking about...

I would never stop at having JUST one of anything;)

I'd love to see your complete collection Dave, so many ab's that I like. Personally I love the "A" models, I have 2 super 63 A's and I love them both. I. Got that burdick model "a" a few weeks back which I haven't tried yet, I'm a little scared to be honest just in case I break something. You can't put much paint in the cups on the 'a' but I never need a lot when I'm painting. Still like my micron sb too but only bring it out when I need some fine detail.

Thanks, Lee. I am slowly working on putting together a coherent display, so that I can actually see the brushes I have. Be much easier to photograph them then!

Yeah, I am a fan of the "A" cups also. I love the Super63 A . I found mine in the strangest of places, but it was mainly hardly used, and a very clean example. You're not gonna break the Burdick, as long as you treat it like any other brush you use. So similar to the Aerograph's, it should feel very familiar.

Out of interest, on the SP vs Microns, is the only difference a complete removable spray head? Does this dramatically improve performance?
Or was the SP series simply a predecessor to the Microns?

Really nice thanks for the pics, seems I'm always late to the party when it comes to getting my hands on some these i need (olympus, efbe).

The Efbe is a bit more difficult, but they are fairly common in Europe, so pop up occasionally in good shape. Spares seem to be readily available in Germany, so it helps to know someone living there ;). The Olympos brushes are still available from Olympos Japan. One of my SP-A's came from Japan, the other I purchase as new/old stock from someone here in the States. I have purchased several brushes directly from Olympos Japan. It is not the original company, but rather someone selling inventory - they come simply packed, without any sort of after sale support, but the prices are decent.

ECD - there is a difference in performance between the SP and MP series brushes. That being said, I am not sure everyone has the skill or finesse to feel or see the difference. I have seen many people describe the SP as being as good, or better than the MP series Micron. In my testing I have never seen this to be the actual case, but will not overlook or dismiss others impressions.

Wondering if the H&S Grafo T1 is comparable or better than the SP-A
