Badger Renegade Krome trigger problem

Hi all,

I bought a Badger Renegade Krome a few weeks ago and after about 3 uses I took the needle out to clean it, reassembled it and noticed something odd. When I put the trigger back in, it no longer "bounces" up and down on the air valve - it's as if the spring has gone inside the valve. I poked around under the air vale, and poked down from above the air vale, and found that there is actually movement in the vale - it just doesnt spring anymore. This is odd considering I didnt take the valve apart. I applied some lube to it on the off chance but it doesn't seem to have helped.

Any ideas for what might be happening?

thanks,
Steve

Ok, let’s get the formalities out of the way.

Secondly, let’s all make sure we are referring to the correct part by using this as a guide :)

Without the brush pressurised you probably won’t notice much of a ‘spring’ we generally discourage lubing the brush as more often it starts to gum up and make problems that didn’t exist prior, clean off as much lube as you can, be careful what you use as cleaner or you may destroy the o-ring.

Once clean, reassemble, turn on the air and test spray some water and let’s see what happens.

@DaveG May have some other suggestions

What would you suggest I use as cleaner? Would Isopropanol work? I'm referring to part RK-0021.

If it’s a rubber o-ring then no IPA, if it’s Teflon (solvent proof) then it will be fine. I tried checking the Badger site but saw no reference to the 0094 ring.
Warm soapy works well and is cheap :)

What paints are you using ?

hook the brush up to your air source, and see if it works as it should... that would be my first suggestion.

Warm soapy water it is then. I use Scale 75, Vallejo and GW. Can't specifically remember which ones I've used so far with the Badger.

I assume I can take RK-0021 apart with the supplied hex key, in which case I'll try it tonight.

OK, I think I have worked out what the problem is, but I have no idea how it could have happened. It appears that the valve screw (part R-0012) and the valve spring (part R-0028) are missing! Given that I've had this airbrush less than a month it makes me wonder if these parts were ever on there to start with. I will have to contact the company I bought it from and get them to send the parts :(

oooooops, hate when that happens! On these brushes, sometimes if you use an adapter to allow it to fit a standard 1/8" air hose end, or if you use a QC fitting with an O-ring in it, they can unscrew the retainer (r-0012) when you remove them from the brush. You know how I know, right? ;)
