Im about to give up.

Illsley

Double Actioner
Ok i have posted before about my problem and got some great advice and tips but even after applying the advice im still struggling. Firstly no matter how hard i try vallejo paints and primer will not go through my airbrush. Even though i have used (the primer) before. I have used 5 different airbrushes all with the same results. And have tried nozzle sizes up to 0.5 all with this same result. I have tried lower and higher psi no change and tried thinner paints Tamiya 50/50 ratio which were better but still not smooth. One thing i have noticed it my compressor gets stupidly hot, so much it would burn you to touch. Is this normal? Also as its hot could the air its pumping out be getting warm and drying out the paint? Or am i just clutching at straws?

Please im close to quiting as i just cant get this right.

I can only assume your compressor is a studio model with no tank. If so that is you entire problem mainly due to max PSI may show 60 but working PSI at the airbrush will always be 20 or lower .
The heat from it is due to it running non-stop .

just in case... Press trigger down for air and while holding air check pressure gauge how much psi you are running. Don't wanna insult anybody, that was actually the issue I had when I started :D

Hi, naw i allways set my psi by holding the trigger down

I would suggests more thinning if 50/50 was better but still not smooth thin further. Getting the right mixture is trial and error. Also for something thicker like primer try bumping up the air preasure . It does indeed get very frustrating however once you find the perfect combo of thinning and air preasure its worth the hassle

Mainly that compressor is a studio tankless with a small tank added,It is having a hard time keeping the tank filled.
On primer through an airbrush I usually am sitting about 60 to70 psi.

if your result is not smooth then your air pressure and paint consistency are wrong, or you are spray from to far away and the paint is acutally drying before it hits the model.

getting things 'dialled in' is frustrating but one of the learning curves we all have to go through.
The larger the pigment in the paint = larger the needle size required = you'll need higher PSI.

The setting you use for the primer will be different to the psi you use for the model air (its thinner so you'll need to drop the psi)

If you are using large needle and high psi then yes, your compressor will run all the time, and overheat, which isn't ideal.

This isn't the sort of hobby that has a 'recipe' of ''This size airbrush and that paint requires this reduction and that psi'' it just not that simple.

As everyone already said,

Does your gun spray water fine? If so it’s your paint mixture.
Vallejo sprays through my micron with a little help with water and flow improver,
Watch Next level painting for tips on models, Kenny is a top bloke and an amazing artist :)

No my compressor does not run constantly just turns on when the tank goes below pressure. I watched the above and it says that my kind of compressor should be ok for making model kits.

But not for shooting primer There is a huge pigment difference between model paint and any primer.
If the compressor is getting to hot means it is over worked on trying to keep up with air.
Granted I have a silent air 50 at home that I use 90% of the time but for priming and clear coating I use my big compressor so I do not over work my silent air.

If it can spray water you have no issues.Either is your thinning, tip dry or compressor. I think we had this talk about your issues also in 2 different threads and we always running around and if I am not mistaken we always landed on compressor talk.

Correct me if I am wrong. :) You had a cheap compressor which went to hell, and you bought another one which was crap, and you got another one which is also crap. So you basically spend money on 3xcrap compressor, have bunch of issues and you don't like this hobby cause of it. :)

Compressor is one of those things which are pain full to buy(at least that was my case), but it is kinda a must if you would like to airbrush without frustrations. Even if compressor is good, there is still tons of other stuff which need to become part of you, so no need to add to your self another frustration with bad compressor.

I also wonder if you could buy one good compressor with all the money you spend on crap ones. And trust me, I understand the position of a person which doesn't have money to waste and has bunch of responsabilities.

This thread is also a proof if you check out what kinda compressor I was using :) That old lady drunk oil like crazy last few days...

You can ask Siroxx if his life changed when he bought better compressor. And bunch of other people. Why I am assuming your issue is compressor? Cause you got plenty of videos about thinning and nothing helped. But in reality if you can spray water at low pressure, your airbrush is working. So either tip dry, thinning and psi. And we covered tip dry few times and also thinning. So I am assuming it is compressor :) Bear in mind those are my 2 cents. And I wouldn't listen to my self, so you should probably also not do that :D

Was this post rude? I hope not, I am right before my launch and I am not objective. How much money you spend on all of your different compressors in total?
