Iwata HP-A

Saw someone post an Iwata HP-A airbrush for sale. Judging by the look of the box, it seems older. I was told its a gravity feed however I don't see a side or top cup. There is an opening near the front where you can see the needle. Does anyone have any information about this brush or experience with one?

In general, brushes are described as "A", "B", "C", "SB", etc - which equate to cup size. The "A" cup is a small opening in the top of the brush, which generally hold a half dozen drops of paint, or so. (B's are usually around 2cc's, C's @ 7cc's, and SB's are side feeds). The Iwata HP-A use the same needle, nozzle, and air cap combo as the Iwata HP-B, and the side feed HP-SB. They are great brushes for doing small areas, or details. They have been discontinued by Iwata in the last year or so.

@Dave. Are the old & newer ‘A’ needles/nozzles the same? I remember a few years back I got mislabeled parts for my ‘b’ and I think it was the nozzle that was different ? And maybe the needle too?

Yes, the old and new are the same in the "HP" series. The newer Plus series, like the "HP-B Plus, HP-SB Plus, etc..." use a revised thread pitch on the nozzle and in the brush, and are not compatible with the regular HP series. The needles however, keep the same taper.
