Raised Stone effect

I have been trying and failing for a few days now to get a good convincing representation of carved stone. I’m thinking there isn’t enough contrast between the colors but I’m not sure. Obviously bright yellow stone doesn’t exist but the teams colors are black yellow and white.

Any suggestions or tips for getting good convincing raised carved stone?

Thanks husky. I’ve watched all of those which is where I got the idea from. Just trying to figure out what the difference between mine and theirs is and why I’m not getting quite the effect I’m looking for.

my noob eye sees difference in color. Your is yellow, their it's not. I'm gonna try to find one great video from terry hill. need a minute.

eh, sorry I know I seen his video with great tutorial. I guess I bought it, it wasn't from you tube...

But like I mentioned, to me it seems your yellow is the issue -.-

I’m no colour expert, but you could try adding a couple drops of white to the yellow to show the highlight and darkening the yellow for the Shadow, rather than using black and white.

I like and hate that idea all at the same time . I think you are right, the shadows on that wouldn’t be a deep black but more of a very dark yellow. But man I hate having to darken yellows it’s such an ass pain lol, y far my least favorite color mixing

Dont darken yellow with black.
Violet is your answer. I will leave you with a link to my color mixing tutorial series. Not trying for the plug I truly feel I can help folks mix colors and its one of the hardest things to find info on... yet actually fairly easy to learn to do !

I hate touching black period for anything unless I have too. I understand The color theory but I still hate trying to darken yellow. It turns so quickly to where you don’t want it because it’s such a weak color.

I would go for a yellow hue'd white for the highlight and a yellow with black in it for the shadow. In the standard grey type stone you have white speckles and black speckles, once again yellowy white for the light ones and a yellow black for the dark ones. I don't know myself but that's what I would try.

Its worth a try.

I’ve embedded you pic so we can see it easier.
I also hope your pic is upside down.
Light source is normally from the top, which means your shadows and highlights are around the wrong way. If for some reason it just the image is around the wrong way then what they’ve even said above would be my suggestion, your highlight is to light and extends to far, your shadow needs adjusting.

Thank you for embedding that for me. I am attempting to make it look as those the logo is raised, the negative space was cut away to leave the logo raised up.

So you’re wanting it to look raised, not carved... deceptive thread title... I’ll fix that to avoid confusion :)
Your highlight extends to far to the right, the black crack is to dark across the highlight, needs a little more shadow under the ‘fins?’ On the left. later tonight (lunch time here at the moment) I’ll play on the iPad and see if I can show my suggestions.

Your shadow placement is wrong. It should be outside the image. The highlight is in the right place. Combined it will look raised

I have absolutely no idea how I missed that but you are absolutely correct. Thank you, with the size of this you just made my life a real pain trying to tape that up LOL
