I was googling lately a lot, cause I was looking for some stuff for my self and I found also this. I was thinking, maybe someone will find interesting as an idea for DIY or maybe even to buy it. You never know. I also do wonder, how you guys set your helmets for airbrushing. Here is a video about it, also link to the product just in case.

That’s cool. I’m going to watch this tomorrow morning. I’ve almost worked up the courage to paint one of my Helmets and this would be great.

I was thinking about it, why you don't get used one for practise. I can get them 10 bucks a piece on flee market here. Even less.
Here is an example 5 euros. I am guessing old used helmets could be used as a subject to train on.

I know how you feel Simon, Husky, we don't see many around unless I suppose you go to a local car boot sale..
I'm about to retire my current helmet as I've been using it for 18 months now and its done almost 100.000 miles so its got to retire for safety, once I do it I think I will be ok. I feel so guilty about painting it. I've got a new one in the box ready to come out.
Looking at how that works I think I could make one from 19mm mdf with proper joints and a few bolts thrown in. Not sure about the bit where the helmet sits yet though but I'm sure I have something that will work. Off till Tuesday so may have a look.

I have an old helmet that I don’t use anymore, that’s the one I plan on painting. At this point I’m just procrastinating as there’s no reason why I shouldn’t give it a go. As always, it’s only paint and it’ll wipe off!

Well I didn't get chance to have a mess but now I am off till Wednesday so Maybe round 2 will be in the running. Still tidying my garage and stuff to make room though.

I am wondering what you will come up with :) And how much it will cost lol

Ok, this didn't take long at all, I think the most time taken was uploading the files to the cloud, downloading them to the laptop, resizing and uploading to here as well as the vid to youtube.

So here's the step by step

image001.jpg
First I cut out some circles from scrap wood. I did more than I needed in case I screwed it up.

image002.jpg
I drilled each one and glued them together with a wooden dowel at 90 deg

image003.jpg
After they are attached

image004.jpg image005.jpg
Then I butt jointed 2 pieces of wood together at 90 deg attached with a screw

image006.jpg image007.jpg
I rounded the end over so the bits of wood would not snag on each other and then put it together with a bolt, washers and a wing nut.

image008.jpg
I drilled a hole in another long piece of wood and attached that the same way, Bolt, washers and a wing nut.
That would be where the helmet holder part would go.

Here is a short video to show you how it moves..

Now remember this is only a mock up and so the 90 deg circly part isn't the strongest plus the glue hadn't gone off so it does move slightly.

For a better fix I think I would use a 6mm or 8mm bolt with its head cut off and epoxy it in place.
The L shape bracket would also have a proper joint which would be glued and screwed.

For the helmet mount part I think some sponge or a polystyrene dummy head would work. Cut a slot in it and slide the wood up inside with a bit of glue to secure it. I'd have to work out how to exactly attach it but I don't think it would be too difficult..

And no i'm not making any to order. lol

Stay safe everyone
