Thayer & Chandler Model A

Hi everyone,

Does anyone know where I can get an air valve for an old Thayer & Chandler model A. Or if there is another brand that might fit this gun. I tried ebay but didn't come up with anything. I hope I can get something for it. Be a shame if the gone was no good anymore.

Thanks all

Mikey

Ohh, I think I found something. I think I just found that badger will fit this brush. Does anyone know if this is correct.

Thanks again

Now, when you say air valve, what exactly are you looking for? The air valve casing screws off bothe the Thayer, and Badger about mid-way down the valve assembly. They both contain a valve stem, seal, and spring. If you have damaged the air valve, that is one thing - but, if it is just in need of a new seal, that is something different.

The Badger air valve is not a perfect fit. If Philip has one you can grab, grab it ;). That being said, the badger air valve can be made to work if needed, but it is not a simple drop in.

Well, I have at least one bastard derelict Model A, but if it’s only the valve housing he needs, he will have to find a way to remove it without destruction since I believe they were brazed on.

It’s a 53000 serial range hulk, but the serrations are perfect. No damage.

Hi Guys,

Thanks for the reply guys. I have attached pictures of what I have. The plunger in the valve where the trigger should press on seems like it's seized maybe with rust but for the life of me I can't get it to move. I have tries soaking it in thinner and wd40 but no luck.

Hope you don't mind I grabbed your photo - I added an arrow where the seam is on the TC and Badger airbrushes. There is no seal used here, simply mating surfaces to contain the air pressure. The second picture is the valve casing being unscrewed from the body. The Model A generally uses a trigger with a cross pin in the base of the trigger, while the Badger uses a cone shape to sit on top of the air valve stem. Because of this difference, the valve pins are a different length between the brands. There are also minor differences in some of the dimensions where the valve casing mates to the body. I've turned TC valve casing to fit Badger brushes because they feature a superior feel.

The brush I have has the cone shaped trigger and not the cross pin. Is mine maybe not a model A?? Thanks so much for taking the time Dave.

yes, yours is a model A, just a more recent version - 80's-90's... I am checking parts... be back

OK, I grabbed a dead Sotar out of the parts drawer, and unscrewed the air valve - fits right up to the version of the Model A you have. I connected air, and tested function, no issues. Any of the current badger air valves are going to be the same. Now, the trigger feel sucks on the Badger valve vs. the original TC... but, I don't see an option in this case.

That's good news. I will get a badger valve, thanks so much for taking the time. I appreciate it very much.

I have an old sears airbrush that looks a lot lot a badger 150. Sure enough the air valve fits perfect on this brush. Thanks again Dave & philip.

And THIS is why I LOVE this place.
I've asked for some help in the past with some older airbrushes and got it.
