Looking to get into clear coating with 2k. Can anyone recommend a good/decent gun for beginners, not more than $220? Also what's your favorite 2k brand?

Thanks, I saw a couple of these videos, do you have any personal favorites?

for me: ani R150 mini gun - bunch of people here have it so they can give you their opinion @SiRoxx got one.
big gun: DeVilbiss Gti Pro Lite is in my wish list but that is out of your budget.

You should still find options for your budget in those videos. What are you planning to spray?

I kick myself in the butt everytime I think back to it, but my wife's friend needed money and wanted to sell me a DeVilbiss for $50.00. I didnt have a large enough compressor and didn't realize how expensive they were to buy and declined....oh why did I decline!!!!! I was just starting out airbrushing and didn't even think I'd need one...now when I'm thinking about maybe getting one I cry thinking I could already have a nice one

just wondering how strong is your compressor. Cause some guns can eat air like I would eat strawberry cake.

First question what kind of spray booth do you have ?
2k spraying a proper booth is a must , Not only to keep you safe but anyone else who lives close.

Large closed canopy like the camping ones. I placed it next to my external garage door with a filter and fan to vent outside. back yard vents to open space. I cut the vinyl walls to install filters to bring in dust free air. Small projects only so spraying time is only about 30 seconds. Have organic filter, body suit and gloves and goggles. Just missing the gun and a recommendation for clear. Used the spray max in a can with good results but not cost effective.

Hope you’re filtering the exhaust air though. Like @Mr.Micron said, 2k is bad for you and everyone else. I used to work in plastics fabrication back in late 70s. Stuff we were using for adhesives and coatings should have required organic vapor PPE. Boss’ answer was just open the windows more at the time.

I really like the ANI Mini Gun, mainly because it runs well on a smaller compressor. Other than I much more expensive LPH80, the ANI is one of least air hungry guns. Quality is great and it’s a pretty easy gun to get on with too.

What is the biggest thing you sprayed with it or maybe I should ask differently. What would be the biggest thing you can spray with it in your opinion ?

Don't really spray anything larger than 14"x14"

I think this is the info we are looking for. If I would be you, I would wait for Siroxx. He also has like a gun airbrush, and he will know if mini gun is not over kill for you work.

If I am not mistaken! he uses this airbrush
137 pounds. You can get it in states as well. I don't have a clue where you live.

I am just thinking outloud so don't be harsh on me. But he will know if mini spray gun is overkill for your work. I don't even have a clue if you can clear coat with that airbrush... -.-

I would say a motorcycle tank and maybe the hood of a mid size car at a push. I much prefer using the Mini Guns for Clearcoat rather than the Fan Brush. Don’t get me wrong, I think it would be totally possible to clear coat an A4 size canvas or models, RC bodies. I just find the Mini Gun easier to get an even coat of Clear. Plus I like a High Solids clear as I aim for an automotive finish, so the larger needle / nozzle size of the Guns is a better tool as far as I’m aware.

That right Buddy. I have the PS290. It’s great for spraying base colours because of the pattern, but also the .5 Needle is nice for some Pearl and Small Flake.

LPH80 is 2.2 cfm (60 l/min)
R150 is 4.24 cfm (120 l/min - consumes twice as much air as Iwata LPH80)

Is Iwata LPH80 (1.2 nozzle) suitable for clear coat and primer?
