Long-term test: Red Paints Lightfastness

Really interesting results. At the same time it’s kind of worrying for anyone using Createx for automotive purposes.

I never wanted to mention the createx autoair that was used on a custom chopper paint job by a guy living a few streets down the road . it was a custom flame job that faded with in a year not just the red but also the orange and yellow colors

Im actually not surprised by the CI red fade, its aimed at art, not automotive. I'd have been surprised if the wicked / wicked detail had faded to that extent. Although Ron has pointed out that an 'Autoair' paint job faded out so maybe there result would have been the same across the entire createx range.
I was however pleasantly surprised by the Etac not really fading out a great deal.

Thank you André, you've done several of these tests over the years and they're always informative.

I wonder if the new Wicked Opaques will do better. Supposedly they have the UVLS built right in at the factory.

I looked at their TDS, and they mention several times they want you to use UVLS clear, either mixed, or as a topcoat with the illustrations that are gonna be used outdoors.
I'm currently in the process of dumping all Createx and switching to E'tac.
