Airvalve removal made easy

Air-Valve Autobot!
This is just a quick view in how to remove the airvalve piston and spring on Iwata and other Chinese knock-off. I used my Iwata HP-CS Eclipse for this demo.

I just got me cheap tweezers from the local pharmacy. I just cut of the sharp edges and sanded them smooth. Tried to make them the same width as the openings of the valve nut.

The rubber o-ring is there to help keeping the tips pinched. This way you don't need to worry about gripping the nut, just to turning it.

This is where you need to go into.

Perfect fit. Adjust the o-ring so that the tips have a good grip.

You will end up with a nut ready to put back.

Piston and spring exposed.

Very few parts in the airvalve.

I do have a Sparmax removal tool but it only fits Sparmax guns. You can modify it to fit Iwatas but not all of them have the same size nuts so you will need one for each gun.

I had seen a similar tool in the vid by Dru Blair, the one outlining the installation of his valve spring, but being me I came up with this one night at work. This was after I got the valve tool Andre listed as a Sparmax tool and realized it only for 2 of my 5 Iwata's.

brilliant Andre. I modified a screwdriver with a very thin angle grinder blade to do something similar for an industrial heat gun and thought it might work, but this is a much better plan considering the shapes involved.

Question: Under what circumstances would I need to remove the air valve?

Fyi.... You can now geta similar tool from marissa at foxystudio.com

What about the sleeve/casing the valve goes into (brass colored tube inside the brush's valve area)? When disassembling my Revolution to give it a bath in the ultrasonic cleaner, I had to also remove the sleeve/casing so water didn't get trap between the casing and the airbrush body. I had to use a toothpick from where the trigger guide slips into to be able to pull it out.

is there a specific tool Iwata provides for this?

thanks

I use tweezers too, much easier and a lot cheaper as I already have several. Nice tip Andre'.

I own a Neo Iwata brush and it doesn't unscrew this way. Here is a link for the schematic.

Look at page 4

https://www.iwata-airbrush.com/mm5/graphics/00000001/NEOCNBCN-IM.pdf

I have to completely remove the part number 15. I tried and it's impossible it's really tight.

I'm thinking to use plyers and a piece of cloth to not damage the brush...do you have an advice on how unscrew it?

I want to remove it , to give it a good clean in my ultrasonic cleaner.

According to this schematic, it does look like it can come apart like above. https://airbrushes.com/parts_info.p...sa9hc0679km02jua9kv&sort=2a&products_id=21056

But personally, I would remove the whole valve stem if I was going to put it in an ultrasonic cleaner.
