Hi! New member saying hello from Finland, Europe.

30 years old, married with two kids. Started airbrushing couple of months ago with a cheap brush, and after a few session decided to order iwata hp-cs.

I started brushing cause I paint my own cars and motorcycles for a hobby and I wanted to do something more complicated. Also I have aalways admired airbrush art and pinstriping.

Must say, brushing is more difficult than it seems.

Looking for advice and i've already watched/read a lot of tutorials. Especially airbrushtutor@youtube. Great videos.

I already have one question:

I have trouble spraying same amount of paint. Sometimes a lot of thinned paint comes out and suddenly it stops. It's making my art creation really hard.

I to clean my brush in after use and also take care of tip dry while painting. Same thing with every color (black or white).

Createx wicked colors, thinning with neutralized water and a bit of pledge floor shine.

Thanks for a great forum!

Welcome Andy, you'll find everything you need here and don't be afraid to get questions coming.

My first bit of advice, stop using the pledge floor stuff it could be the cause of your problem but it definitely would nit be good for your brush.

I also think your compressor is producing water and this is what you see as thinner paint coming out of your brush, if you don't already have an in line water trap I suggest you get hold if one.

You have a very good airbrush so to keep it good try to use only the recommended thinners/reducers and cleaners for both the brush and the paints you use.

What compressor do you have and does it have a tank? If it does do you drain it regularly?

Hi from New Zealand Andy.. yes, don't use pledge, good for floors, bad for brushes!! The Iwata eclipse is a great choice!

Hi,

Okay the pledge is going to hit the floor then. Only problem is that I have to order the thinner via mail, so It's a bit expensive.

I have a 3hp, 100L compressor, fitted with a water filter and and regulator with a other water filter. Air tank is drained on a regular bases.

I think water is not the problem in this case.

I'm thinking of buying a portable ab compressor too. My 3 year old want's me to paint teddies and unicorns in her room :)

Have a lol lol through the archives here on the forum, someone posted a thread ages ago about a recipe for homemade reducer, you can use the search function at the top of the home page by just typing keywords.

Nothing wrong with teddies and unicorns, your daughter has goose taste and you'll get lots of practice:thumbsup:

Since you are using Wicked paint buy some of the W100 or W500 reducer.
If you are just wanting to save some money while you work on practice then
25% alcohol(I use 200 proof ) 75% Water and 1 drop of glycerin per ounce . So an example is 8 ounce bottle 2 ounces alcohol, 6 ounces water and 8 drops of glycerin. That is all you need .
While there are still a lot of old homebrews floating around the net they were designed to be used with the old standard Createx .

welcome to the forum antti, like madbrush said the pledge might be the cause try distilled water alone or go to 4011 reducer,Also both black and white are know to be bad with tip dry and clogging,For pratice just use food coloring in water till you get the strokes down,It cost alot less then paint

Welcome! I'm from Finland too. I would use ComArt or Probably Etac' paints. I've tested Auto-Air, Wicked, Wicked Detail, Illustration, Com-Art, all the reducers and I've found that nothing works as good as Com-Art (or probably Etac') When one is just starting to airbrush, it is alot easier to start with Com- Art. I didn't do it, but it would've saved me a lot of time and frustration. I wish I knew better. No need to make things harder than they already are.

Dont use com art on automotive type applications... aside from that it is awesome paint,

I use wicked with the w500 reducer. I have never gotten as good of performance from it using any of the homebrews.. that being the only paint i really found needing its own branded reducer. Just makes my brush happier.

Welcome to the forum Andy. I have to order everything here as I am disabled but often can get free shipping in the US for larger orders.

Welcome from Ausralia. Nice to see your trying to figure out the issue rather than chucking the whole lot in the to hard basket.
Yes, all the videos make it look soooo easy, the suck you in and lure you with promises of angels singing

Welcome to the forum Andy. I've been using Wicked for a long time now and my advice is to use the reducers made for the paint. You'll save yourself a lot of headache. Wicked is a bit hard to get to know the reduction and psi combination, but once you do, you'll be off and painting some great pieces. Another tip, if you mix in the AB cup, put the reducer in first, then the paint and mix. Sometimes the thick paint will sit in the bottom and cause issues with the flow, especially the white.

Thanks for tthe replys. Today iordered wicked 500 high performance reducer. Let's see if that makes a difference.

Hey andy, welcome to the forum. Reading through the posts I see no one has suggested filtering / straining the paint. Get some paper paint strainers /filters from ebay or an automotive paint supplier, they are pretty cheap. Put your paint through and see if that makes any difference. You can also use a nylon stocking or panty hose but make sure the Mrs knows.. I had trouble with a brand new set of Trident paints, blocked my .02 Iwata up really badly. Once I filtered the paints a couple of times I didn't have the issue again. I filter all my paints except my etac, I've never had any issues with them.

Good luck and you will be painting in no time.

Lee
