Paint Overview and General Advice

Mdf a roller, white paint of pretty much any breed. I use acrylic house paint, roll it, dry it, roll, it again, dry, sand lightly to smoothness you like and paint,,,When you of course want to do nicer works, paper for practice, nice surfaces for artworks. if you stuff up get the roller out again if you forgot to do 8 boards at a time LOL :) Cheap to.

Thanks again for your input guys.
I've been onto Golden and they have been pretty helpful so far too, which I'm impressed with, so a definite +1 for customer service!

Their website is also pretty good and had some interesting information on it about paints, pigment sizes and how to optimally use their paints too.

I'm still playing about, and will give the MDF route a try this weekend. :) Our local hardware store does massive sheets of the stuff, and then cuts it if you request too. So I may just go get a huge sheet and get him to cut it to like 10x12 pieces! Then I can paint it with the roller as you suggest, like I'm doing with the rest of my house! ha!

:)

Get some 400 grit 800 grit and 1200 grit and a sanding board makes the job easier or cheat and use a mouse sander then the 1200..Be real laborous and go to 2000 if ya want, super smooth :) Smoothest roller you can find also

For the roller I have found the foam rollers with no nap is the smoothest, usually called a 4" detail or trim roller.
For sanding a palm sander, orbital sander or my favorite an adjustable oscillating tool with a hook and loop backing then get the largest disk usually 7" with the same hook/loop backing. You get 4 pads out of a 7" disk and usually 25 7" disks are between $9-$13 on amazon so it is pretty cheap. I start with 320 than 600 than 1000 and finish usually with 2000. With the oscillating tool it only takes a few minutes per board vs 45 minutes doing it by hand.

I've been looking at golden paints too. good to see that here. Will take note of your recommendations

If you want to mess with the guy next time you go in to have the sheet cut down so smaller sizes, ask him how many 2" x 2" pieces you can get from a 4x8 sheet...;)
