Candy paint on a motorcycle tank

I will try it for first time (maybe) and I have some basic questions for you people (tank is black):

- I hear that I should put a layer of clear over the artwork before the candy to avoid bleeding , is that correct ?

- I want the depth that can be achieved with candy (beside the color) , should I use metallic silver paint or can be done with white paint ?

On layer clear that is all depending on the art work . Most time when I do candy painting on something it is just one color of candy that I am using and mainly building a monotone paint job out of the candy. But if you plan on using different colors of candy then yes you will want to clear it if you do not want the color shift.
The depth when using candy is how many layer you put down of it . White white will make it pop out more for using a metallic silver or gold will also give is a color shift in different lighting. Best thing to do is a test panel .. I always do one before painting on a paying project. If it is for myself I just go for it cause I can always sand it and repaint it if I am not happy with it.

Thanks mister Micron , my idea is to paint in white over black the artwork (monochromatic) , then use one color of candy to shift to another color , trying to achieve more depth that paint it directly in that color , I explain myself correct ?

I would do the art as you described.
Then an Intercoat clear then candy.
Just in case something goes wrong on the candy layer.
Actually I wouldn't use the Intercoat because I'm often stupid and forget to protect my artwork. But using it is the smart bet.

Inter-coat clear is a carrier for all candy paint be it water base or urethane . So using it as a barrier will allow the color to bleed. That is why it is recommended that if you do not want the color bleed/shift that you use light coats of clear coat between colors.
