Most versatile colors?

Just looking for some input.
If you had limited space for paint storage, what would be your 10 must have colors to get the most work out of? Wicked/ Createx line.

Primaries plus BW set in wicked color
primaries in wicked detail.
burnt umber Because it takes a ton of yellow to mix browns and flesh tones.
Then probably a dark green because theyre hard to mix without being muddy

But it really depends on the main type of work.

[emoji33]this had to be a "must be tips" for a beginner like i am.. nice one man, thanks [emoji120][emoji120]

Well.....Other, better artists may have a different opinion. I'm interested myself to see what some of the real experts have to say.
well, i dont own that colour but saw many vid that show people used it, and kinda sparks a curiosity in me. Mostly about the colour combination mix to get that umber, had answered some of a few more umber riddle in me. i can see the point of a role that colour plays. [emoji106][emoji106][emoji106]

i think it would go without saying that the 3 primaries and black and white would be your first 5 bottles.

After that, my choice would be:
Burnt Umber,
Burnt sienna
Sepia
Paynes Grey
Red violet

but i'm far from an expert, i suck at colour mixing, thats why i have a lot more than 10 bottles lol

Actually Maybe Id skip the green for a bottle of 4030
And change the wicked detail to CI. Tough call
Since as far as I can work out, I think detail is basically CI with 4030 and less pigment
but that way youd get CI's erasability If you used it alone and I think it dilutes out more transparent than regular wicked So that its more like detail?
I havent got to use CI yet though. So I'l have to experiment

I Had all of those colour you stated in my confidential booklet for my bond quest soon lol, for me here in "Asgard" lord odin just too busy to put an airbrush paint for allowed import stuff, that left me with a very little range of selection by the product availability here, i had a few additional stuff by online purchase which the origin is outside asgard, and turned out to punished my wallet. CI still remain "impossible" for me to get here since it always a wicked lines is kinda what they ads, all i had now is primary wicked. [emoji23]

Well, thats the whole reason primaries and black and white are THE essentials. It's possible to do almost everything with them. Everything else is basically convenience. Unless you're doing automotive surfaces, which candies and metallics and pearls become more important.
If it were an auto kit I'd go primaries, black and white, candy "primaries" , 4030, Sparklescent. Silver if i could add an 11th bottle

Just my opinion. but Id like to see someone like @musicmacd chime in. He's got a different ,but I think really cool way of using colors and I think hes got one of the more sensitive eyes for color I've seen.
Or for an automotive kit someone like @wickedartstudio who I think is one of the more experienced here for doing automotive style on a daily basis.

I like @JackEb 's choices too, It's pretty much a straight out beginner classical artists kit. It would probably be the pat answer for this if it was asked across a range of artists in different mediums.

Most of my experience is cartoons so I really extra tend to feel like you can do anything with primaries.

just an FYI, i'm pretty sure once 4030 is added to any of the range you've pretty much lost any erasability it has.

Oh I know, I was tryin to think versatility. Like CI is erasable but then you could really thin it out for transparency or then add 4030 and have something like wicked detail. I'm not sure it works out that way though.

I think this because I know wicked color is technically a transparent or semi-opaque and you cant get it super transparent because it has the big pigment size.
But CI has the small pigment size like detail does, but is more concentrated but doesnt have a durable binder. So 4030 for those times

i would be agree with you about musicmad also those two guys, but had a courage enough just to point for musicmad because i saw what he had done that proof it, the way those guy applied their knowledge on their work was so amazing, they already got paid for what effort they put on this whole time. suddenly i just went to the box where i stuff all the cup with mixed paint that i did, found out some of it was even out of draft or "remain unknown species" because i dont know what the name of colour they became lol. As about candy i did a few but all the way with rattle can candy.[emoji87]

CI is the most versatile airbrush paint I’ve found. I use it for illustration and rewetting applications, but when the paint cures, the ability to erase diminishes significantly. If you really wanted to, you could add Wicked trans base and it will cure more like Wicked.

Thanks,
Thats where I was kind of trying to head with it, I had read from createx that to use CI for automotive purposes you use 4030 with it. Just never tried it so I didnt want to say for sure. 4004 might be the better bet I have no idea

Just figured if you had wicked color, and CI and a solid binder you could get the full range of transparent to basically fully opaque ( color+white) And use it all for any given application depending on how you mixed it up.

Yep. All of the colors in the CI sets are transparent, minus black and white. I don’t know all of the new additives, but have used Wicked trans base and it sets much quicker than with CI alone.

Obviously the primaries and white black is the "correct" answer, but that's text book not real life!
For me personally -

Transparent base and white gets used about the same amount, I use the base to make thin colours so it's not used neat.

Red Violet
Sepia
Burnt umber
Moss green
Blue Violet

With these colours I make all the skin tones and shadows

Are the red and blue violets ready mixed?, and are these uses to darken and/or add shadows to your skin tones? If your skin tone is too dark how would you personally lighten it?

And just to show how ignorant I am, would I be correct in assuming based on Dru's colour buffering you are also using white along with the bottom 5 to achieve your skin tones?

And in answer to the original question, I too would and usually do only keep the primaries plus black, white, umber and a shed load of trans base:thumbsup:

If I was allowed more than 10 bottles I would probably also add all the ochers and possibly even the secondaries, not to mention the colours Paul mentioned as his bottom 5:) makes think 20 bottles is more realistico_O my head is spinning now, who's idea was this stupid gamelol
