Erasers, Rubbers

Mac-Valve Maestro!
It's not really about Rubber or Erasers

BUT

More about cleaning or keeping them clean. I found that after a short while when using on a painting I'm quickly getting a build up of paint on the eraser and then as the paint has built up it no longer affective.

I rub the eraser on the side of masking tape this works well But leaves fine grains of rubber on the end that acts like grit and a chiseled shape will leave a lot of fibers on the end that resembles a hairy brush that have to be picked of with thumb and finger nail. I also use wet and dry 1000 grit but this will leave the same problem's as the masking tape but finer.

So is their any magic trick solution to cleaning a eraser end with out destroying the nicely shaped point/chiseled end you have spent the last five min's carving

It's driving me crazy

If you’re just trying to get the residue paint off while in use then I would recommend just plain paper, I think using any kind of tape will introduce possible sticky ness!

Yeah , they even have little pads of sandpaper with a stack stapled to a stick by the erasers in art shops just for this purpose.

I find fabric works better though. Depending on how hard the erasers is, cotton t shirt, jeans , or carpet
End with a light rub and the shreds get taken off too.

Paul the face of the masking tape that's taped your paper to the easel board
Ok! When then I have no more ideas! I have many erasers though and they all erase differently and also some do not get that “chiselling” effect (which is great for metal) they are usually the harder ones

Jimmy that's very wasteful Paul's paper trick works well better than wet and dry and the masking tape.

I have foamboard with sandpaper and wet and dry glued it it's like a honing stone just for chiseling me ink(hard) eraser

I've found licking the rubber and the wiping it on my shorts works really well when cleaning the eraser 10/10 it also helps to remove heavy painted area quite quickly
