Createx Pure pigments mini review

Leakyvalve

Mac-Valve Maestro!
It would be very nice of you, if you can make some kinda review or opinion on our forum. We don't have any real info about that stuff, probably you are the first one with hands on this stuff. I sure am very interested in results which you will get.

@huskystafford So this is a quick mini review. I got the pigments off Amazon. Right now I believe this set is the best buy of paints anywhere on the internet. Less than a dollar an ounce for ten times the potency. It is almost 25% of retail. I have poor control when I find deals like this. I might buy a few more.

Set C: Pure Pigment Theory Color 2 oz Set
consists of 5 Colors:
3302-02 Hansa Yellow Med
3309-02 Ultramarine Blue
3311-02 Phtalo Blue GS

3314-02 Quinacidone
Magenta
3319-02 Primary Red

Below is a picture of a 8.5x11 page of screwing around. That is 1 drop of red and 8 drops of wicked base along with some reducer. 1 drop filled that page up. I even sprayed some out I was tired of messing around.

That’s cool. I hadn’t heard of Createx Pure Pigment before. Seems like a pretty cost effective way of painting though, being that Trans Base is fairly cheap too.

thx Leaky. I'm glad you like it.

That’ll be why, I never look at the original Createx products as I don’t use it. Maybe I should though lol.

We had discussion about consistency of the paint. With this pigments Leaky should get each time the same color. Guess I need to find somewhere pigment primary set. -.-

Ok so here's the Pthalo BLUE GS. This is through a .18 gs770 headed gs289.
I did an initial reduction of 9 drop wicked base and 1 drop paint and equal amount reducer. You get upper right hand corner circles. Wayyyy too concentrated. So I added 5 more drops of base and even more reducer. You get the next right hand object wavey shape. Still too concentrated.

Finally I dumped enough reducer in there it had to flow and not be so concentrated. You get the picture of the cup. That is ONE DROP OF PAINT and the rest is all filler. The picture makes it look like less paint than is actually there.

So then I was messing around a bit. Brush was giving me some sass till I got that straightened out and it flowed pretty good. Plenty of tip dry but the fade outs were smooth. A bit TOO reduced though. I obviously over-reacted and put a hair too much in.

By the way.. that pink spot is me trying wicked red at the same reduction as the first post I made. It barely shows up.

Also different acrylic bases may perform better than this old Wicked I'm using for this demo.

It’s interesting to see which the stronger colours are.

Like how the Blue seemed a lot more concentrated than the Red at similar reduction. Unless I misread your post.

red is wicked red, blue are pigments with wicked transparent base if I am not mistaken.

Yeah that's a good point. I'm not a pigmentologist... if that's a word, I doubt it. But some pigments like blues are famously powerful and depending on if they are organic vs. synthetics can also influence their power... also cost as well. I noticed not all bottles of the pigment are priced the same.

If I remember correctly, that guy from createx sad to you it's max 33% of pigments. If I remember correctly lol. So in theory 3 drops pigment, 7 drops trans base is max. The rest is reducer. Would need to check that thread again.
