I needed an easel but couldn't afford to buy one so I started looking at DIY ones but they were not cheap to make, most were about 30$ or more in materials.
I came up with a cheap quick easel that works for me.
1. 1"x6"x8' board cut into 3 strips.
2. one 1/4" bolt about 4", 2 washers, and nut (I used a counter bolt as I had some leftover)
3. 3 eye screws
4. a short piece of dowel rod cut in two pieces for shelf support, taper the ends slightly.
5. board for a shelf, I glued on some stoppers to prevent me from knocking the shelf off the dowels.
6. some string
Drill large hole for the bolt 3/8 or so through all three strips at one end, leave space between the boards and the nut to allow the legs to splay.
Place the eye screws on the back of the front legs and on the front of the back leg.
Open the legs at your preferred distance and tie them off with the string.
Drill holes to match the dowel. Drill extra holes if needed to change the height of the work.
A hook on the end of the shelf allows you to hang it from the rear eye screw to make it compact for storing when not in use.
There you have it, a cheap, quick to make easel.
