Createx Wicked and issues

It seems like I am always having problems with paint. I am pretty sure that my airbrush is clean. I have been using Wicked. Here is my question. I notice that wicked dries quickly to the cup and I assume it is doing the same to the needle. When I take of the needle cup I notice that there is also dry paint there.

Is that normal? Should that cause problems?

I reduce pretty heavily with the wicked reducer and last time I even strained the paint. At first everything flowed pretty well. Not perfect and not as good as com-art after it is strained.

Anyway... paint is driving me crazy. Is there a paint that works super well and is solid quality? (I would like to paint canvases and shirts). Any help is really appreciated.

Sounds like a tip dry problem. If you periodically clean the tip of the needle off while painting it helps alot. I've seen videos where people just use their fingertips and lightly pinch off the paint. I use a qtip with some reducer on it and swirl it around the needle tip to clear off any tip dry. The weather and humidity play hell with how paint flows and how it dries

I was having paint flow issues for a while, and then mr. Micron gave me some exact reductions, and I found that though I thought I was reducing a lit, I wasn't reducing enough. What brush and pressure are you using? In my .2 and .3 I start with at least a 3 or 4 to 1 ratio of reducer to paint for wicked detail. But I'd say start with like a 10 to 1 ratio and work with it from there. This really helped me with my frustrations, and I've been painting a lot more because of it. I think the exact thread is golden high flow tip dry. Something along those lines. I applied what I learned there to all my different paint brands, and it works well with them all.

Ok... so I reduced the paint 20 to 1. I am still get tip dry. A lot less but still often. The paint is still drying in the cup. IDK maybe this is the best it can be...

if you are getting severe tip dry then maybe change the reducer. I have massive tip dry with 4012 when the humidity is low.
as soon as it stops raining I'm going to test 4011 (even though its promoted as a high temp reducer I think it would be better promoted as a low humidity reducer lol ) and I'll even try airbrush cleaner.
I remember a video from createx saying that even cleaner and restorer could be used a reducer.... I'd definitely want to mask up using restorer and spraying it though !

Sometimes I feel like createx doesn't have a clue what they are selling -.-

I have a healthy love/hate relationship with it at the moment. I'd love it to flow nicely like it seems to do for MacD but he is a lot closer to the equator than I am so his humidity is a lot higher.
I'd consider moving to Queensland but the humidity is to much for me

you just remind me I have 2 bottles of some createx crap which makes paint solvent like. I need to try that again and check if I notice any difference now.

Slightly exaggerated but i think youre basically right. They arent PPG or Axalta or Sherwin Williams, its a small company really. Not some bohemoth running labs and doing R+D constantly.
I realized the same when i read about how they came up with their 3 day recommendation on pre-reduced paint.
Which basically went ;
The recommendation was to never reduce more than you were going to use but then they needed to do some show or competition or something and the timing worked out where they needed to pre-reduce for the whole 3 days. After that weekend of not having any immediate problems they changed to 3 days is fine.

I guess theyve never tested longer and never tested long term effects or really tested beyond ....well we tried it and it seemed fine. By comparison a major company would probably have mechanical rub tests, salt spray, UV, Accelerated aging etc etc for several ratios and storage intervals.

We dont have to pay $50 for a 4oz bottle though so.... I'll take the bad with the good.

Anyway I think Jackie is right, low humidity seems to have way more effect than high temp.

Once I stop quacking and the sun returns to the sky more regularly I'll do some testing and try and come up with some better than ' XYZ worked' lol
I've had private discussions with @DaveG and he steered me in the direction of trialling airbrush cleaner, and as soon as he said it I had vague recollections of a video where createx were saying that the cleaner and even the restorer could be used as a reducer.. ..

I'm keen to get some results , my constant tip dry when we have low humidity is driving me insane. Currently its so wet (winter 'down under') and hence more humid, that it doesn't matter what reducer I put in there it doesn't dry quickly - and yes I'm aware that Isopropyl or acetone may help but my lungs say no !

Well, the restorer is basically just ethyl alcohol and water. IDK about their cleaner. So those may give you trouble as well. Goes to show they also consider a variety of things acceptable as reducer though.

Ive had great success using very very small amounts of folkart enamel medium to extend dry time for wicked. Could be worth trying for the $2 it costs
Also ive replaced all use of 4030 with folkart outdoor sealer. Its not as prone to seeding with candies and cost is about half and its still an outdoor polyurethane.

For some starting idea, 1 drop folkart enamel medium 9 drops wicked then reduce as normal....extends the dry time 2-3 minutes or so depending on conditions. Tip dry is far less frequent but more gummy.

I remember the video about using the cleaner as a reducer...But if I remember right, they never mentioned using the restorer...I do not think I want to spray that if they did...
I did try using the cleaner, and I found that it did reduce, but it took a lot more than using 4012..

Yeah I’m with you, don’t think spraying restorer even if they did suggest it

Thank you all... I reduced the paint 25 to 1... no real problem with tip dry but I did not like spaying it at all. So far all the paints I have used have had different strengths and weakness. Not really liking them. I am sure it is partly me and they way I approach things coupled with my lack of experience. I remember liking Golden High Flow but that was years ago and I was not using HP-B+.

What did you not like about how it sprayed?
