Absolute - total-n00b needs advice please

Wait the ones I've ordered just work on t shirts??
Technically, they will work on multi surface but they are basically for fabric yeah.
Ive known some RC guys to use classic, cant personally say if its bad or good there.

As you see classic colors main difference is it ends up much softer....very bad on a motorcycle fairing with a thin layer of clear over top.....not sure it matters much under lexan with backing paint.
I suppose will come down to adhesion really.

After the trade war I expect you gonna join in to the club of nice high prices :D
IDK, its kind of wierd. UK has much lower prices on iwata. Prices arent even the big thing with the compressors there...selection sucks too. I suspect it may have more to do with US's DIY attitude, basically everyone has a compressor.

IDK though OZ seems to be similar in that regard so that one is a little confusing to me.

The important info...
  • Createx Airbrush Colors: Designed primarily for textile / craft purposes
0.5mm tip-sized airbrush - 40-50psi
  • Wicked Colors: Multi surface and art work
0.5mm - 35+ psi no reduction
0.3mm - 25 -35 psi .Dilute 10% with 4011 or 4012
  • Wicked Detail: Multi surface and artwork. finer pigment but greater pigment load than 'wicked'
.5 and .3 as above for ‘wicked’

0.18mm - low psi (<25psi) Wicked Detail Colors diluted 4011 or 4012 low psi settings.

Generally, the smaller the tip size, the lower the psi, the more 4011 or 4012 is added to paint.

Pearls and metallic are recommended to be used with a Spray-Gun - 1.3mm tip-size & dilute 4011

Don't feel bad, there are a few of us here who also bought 'airbrush colors' thinking that was what was needed, only to find out we were wrong. Find some plain tshirts and paint them up as gifts, buy some lengths of material and create a mural type piece for a childs bedroom, its all good practise and you wont waste the paint.

I'd suggest going with Createx Wicked or Createx Wicked Detail,
add these to your shopping list if you do get the Createx Wicked

TRANSPARENT BASE: 4004
Colorless resin base to Wicked Colors. Works as extender to colors for increased transparency without thinning the consistency of the paint, its essentially colorless paint.

REDUCER:
4011 if your temperatures get above 80F (27C )(or low humidity)
OR 4012 for between 60-80F (16-27C)
OR 4020: use with 4011 - 4012 - be aware the 4020 contains Acetone, so wearing a mask is highly recommended

RESTORER:
4008 for deep cleaning of your airbrush. put into a sealable pot its reusable so don't dump it after a clean.
There are many other paint option out there but I have no experience with them so you will have to wait for someone else to give you their experience

As you have prior experience with painting the RC bodies I wont go into the prep required :)

You said your painting RC bodies so the standard created should be ok for you as I was also told that RC painters use the standard createx with good results, I think it works because it's flexible for fabric and so doesn't crack when bent or flexed on the lexan shells. So they won't be wasted. Wicked is a pretty good all purpose paint so get practising and also get the basic wicked primary set and a large bottle of reducer (or thinners as we call it in the UK) you will need more of that than paint.

Lee

Both Jackie and Lee are right in what they’re saying. The “Createx Colors” range is marketed primarily as a T Shirt paint nowadays. But a lot of RC Guys use them too. If you’re wanting to paint lines, fades or blends, just keep in kind that hey will want quite a lot of reducer to run smoothly. Other than that, they’ll be fine for most of what you want them to do.
