Can you trace a photo outline?

Sorry for the ambiguous title and thanks for all the amazing help so far.

I'm getting ready to use my kit for the first time Friday and was thinking.

By profession, I'm a professional photographer, I work with the entertainment industry and celebs.

Is there way of tracing the outline if one of my photos onto paper etc for me to then paint shade, etc?

I hope I've explained that well enough, I just know a few clients who'd absolutely love some paintings of my photography, so thought I'd ask.

Thanks again everyone

this is just an example what you can do, either with hand and exacto, either with cutters and probably few more stuff which I don't know.

Enjoy the music

Hi Mike' Yes is the answer. Simply copy your photo and print it to the size you want, either scribble on the back with soft pencil, place it on your paper, board, whatever your planning to paint on and trace the outlines on your pic, this will transfer the lines to the paint surface like carbon paper. Or use carbon paper. Actually don't use carbon paper, use saral paper as carbon paper is waxy and you don't want wax on your paint surface. That way you have an accurate line drawing transferred and then all you have to do is paint.

If you have an overhead projector (or access to one), you can project an image onto illustration board taped to the wall. Trace the outline of the image and any details you with, then transfer to a workstation and fill in the details. Once you have completed the drawing, you can paint.
Hope that was clear enough. If there's any question, let me know.

I think I show some basic steps in a thread I started of a piece I did. I’ll try and dig it out and post a link.

Got it. I don’t have much in the way of advice to offer, but the first couple pictures show beginning to fill a picture I traced. I used Seral Paper on the surface, put the photo on top of that and drew on the picture. The Seral leaves a white line. My lines were a bit heavy as it was the first time I used it and found out it only needs very light pressure to leave the residue. Hope it helps.
