Compressor air leak.

So I bought an as186 air compressor on ebay and theres an obvious leak on the pipe leading from the compressor to the tank. Here's an image of where: https://www.dropbox.com/s/7vxqlqd30lxvrcq/IMG_20190805_183642.jpg?dl=0

It seems to be coming from the top of the thread on the compressor side.

I've contacted the seller but in the meantime is this as simple as tightening everything up or can that risk further damage? I just want to avoid sending it back and waiting on a new one.

You should be fine to just pinch it up and see if that improves. Just go a little gentle with it.

Just loosen the bottom one on the tank then tighten the top fitting first then the bottom one as it looks like the top fitting is solid to the pipe and will twist the pipe if you try and tighten it while the bottom nut is tight

Deffo doesn't look right, As the guys have said above. Needs tightening up which should stop the leak. Don't forget to let us know how you get on.

Thanks for all the advice! The seller also suggested giving it a go before sending it back. I'll do it when I get home from work and report back.

Not 100% sure how you would tighten it, you may have to remove the head but its pretty simple if you have to. Just remove it carefully as there are some bits underneath.

Oh good to know. What do you mean by the head? And what bits do I need to worry about?

Where that joint you circled in the pic screws into with the fins on top there are 4 allen bolts holding the top (head) on. there's usually a sleeve around the piston which can be loose. I was thinking about the reed valves but they are on top of the piston sorry.
I had mine apart to replace a bearing not long ago, https://www.airbrushforum.org/threads/iwata-powerjet-pro-repairs.20952/

Hopefully you can tighten the part without taking it off. Just take your time. But like Tony said find out where the actual leak is first.

Okay so I did end up having to undo the allen bolts. See how the fitting looks bent in the photo? It's because it is and its caused the fitting to split at the threads which is where the leak is. Looks like it was tightened too much in the factory or something. I'm getting back to the seller about getting a replacement compressor.

With what you’ve found, I think that’s the right call.

Good move, hopefully you will be up and running very soon.

My new one arrived today and it's working great! I'm very excited. It's been fun playing with it but I feel like I have no idea what I'm doing with it haha. Just getting used to proper thinning and choosing psi at the moment.

That’s how it starts Buddy. Keep playing and be sure to ask if you have any issues. Have fun!
