Hi guys

i found some ink bottle 30ml for really cheap price
less than 1usd

i draw-practice mostly on paper so ink i think will be fine
but how to clean airbrush after using ink??
can i clean it with mixture of IPA alcohol and water

Real ink is a much different animal than acrylic ink. It does not contain pigment so it flows a lot easier. It is also a lot more transparent. It will stain your hands and clothing a lot more as well. You can use alcohol to clean out the airbrush.

thanks i also use vallejo acrylic paint but i found this drawing INK price is low so i think its maybe better to practicde with ink

thanks one more time

Practicing with ink is great if you are using it... like Andre said, practice with what you use. You don't go through much paint generally, airbrushes are pretty miserly! You will need to practice with any paint you use as they are all different. You can't spray one brand and expect it to act exactly like another and that is only in the acrylic paints... let alone inks vs paints.

Thanks on info guys, i tried with ink, and works fine, it makes very soft edges and transitions, but its really messy if you use stencils :)

Timothy luke John smith PSA (a real mouthful or fingerful in this case) Works almost exclusively with India Inks. They are very smooth , easy to spray and dilutable. The downside if you care is they are not considered archival... how long they will last indoors is debateable.. many years for certain out of sunlight.

yes i noticed it is easy to spray
in case with acrylic paint i put thinner but to get smooth spraying i need to put few drops more of thinner but then i have to transparent colors
if i put small amount of thinner then i need to pull trigger almost in middle to paint starts to flow
i try 20psi and 30 psi on my compressor but same "problem" i got i use 0.2 and 0.3 nozzle and vallejo premium paint

Yip, that is how it works unfortunately. If you want to get quick coverage, you need thicker paint and then higher pressure. I'm playing with Vallejo Premium at the moment and to get it to flow the way I like to at 15psi, I need to thin it with water about 10 (water) to 1 (paint). It is quite transparent then but it is okay for detail work.

This is Vallejo Premium sepia with a 10:1 thinning as described above. It is through my 0.18 Micron.

i put on 1 drop of paint 7-8 drop watter (white paint on black paper) and for drawing flames its not ok like i said before its to transparent
not so long time i use from revell enamel paint but on other airbrush with 0.5 nozzle and thats look great solid white colors but nozzle is 0.5
i also try enamel with 0.3 but not flow like with 0.5 mm nozzle

i will try it with stronger pressure maybe 40 psi
in vallejo color info stays that vallejo premium colors can be used directly from bottle but psi is 30-60psi
unfortunatly my comressor can not go with 60psi ithink its max 35-40

Reduced white acrylic on paper or cardboard is terrible. It does not cover at all. The paper/cardboard absorbs all the paint and it is dull. It will be better on a hard surface like metal or synthetic paper. Still transparent but little better than on absorbant surface.

yes its really terrible, i think i found some sweet spot yesterday i tested a little bit
compressor set to 30psi 5 drop white paint and 10 drop of thinner, 2-3 coat i got solid nice white

here is quick test (grain is because bad lighting when i took photo)

Hey, I've been using Speedball India ink for about 6 months and it is pretty easy to clean from your airbrush. I put a 1 pint bottle of 70% isopropyl alcohol in a 2 liter bottle with about 10 drops of dawn dish soap and fill with distilled water. You can use and get a 32 oz bottle of 91% isoproply alcohol at CVS for about 3 bucks. If you are planning to use a lot of ink, you can get a 32 oz bottle of SpeedBall #3398 Super Black India ink on eBay for 21 bucks w / free shipping. You can also use India ink for your under painting, and go over it with paint if you want.

What air pressure were you running when you did that ? If you want finer lines you may have to try Createx Illustration paint, the pigment is ground very very fine and can be reduced a lot before breaking it, from what I've heard. I've used the white in the illustration paint with a 0.2mm Tamiya AB and it flows like water with out even reducing it. So it should work great in your 0.18mm reduced.
